DC Studios recently revealed the new Supergirl costume in the first trailer for the upcoming movie. Milly Alcock will play the iconic Kryptonian hero, continuing a long history of Supergirl appearances on screen. This film will only be the second time Kara Zor-El has starred in her own major movie, and the first in over 40 years.
The first trailer for Supergirl is now available, giving fans a glimpse of an exciting, large-scale adventure with the Girl of Steel. The trailer features action-packed scenes of her traveling between planets, introduces a couple of intriguing villains, and showcases her updated superhero costume.

The first trailer for the movie showcases Supergirl’s new costume, and features several action scenes of Alcock as the character getting ready for battle.
This new costume seems to be the same one seen in the initial Supergirl promotional poster from earlier this year, and the one showcased at the CCXP comic convention.

Her current costume is a bit different from the one she wore in the Superman movie in 2025. It features a thicker belt, a new skirt, and improved boots.
The new Supergirl movie arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026. Itâs the second film from James Gunnâs revamped DC Universe. The story centers on Kara Zor-El, a young superhero, who embarks on a mission for revenge after teaming up with an unexpected friend.
Ben Alcock stars in the new movie, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, and Eve Ridley, who complete the film’s impressive cast of characters with special abilities.
Every Live-Action Supergirl Costume From Throughout History
Supergirl (1984)
The upcoming Supergirl movie in 2026 will be the first time the character has headlined her own film since the original Supergirl in 1984. That earlier film, Supergirl 84, featured Helen Slater in the lead role and showcased a classic costume typical of superhero movies from that time.

Her Superman costume was very similar to the one Christopher Reeve wore, consisting of a snug, simple suit and a flowing red cape. Like the costume worn by Milly Alcock’s character, it included a red skirt, though hers was a bit shorter.

Her belt stands out because it’s made of plastic, a different choice from the metal or leather belts usually seen on this character in movies and TV shows.
Smallville
Throughout its ten seasons, Smallville on The CW became famous for its fresh interpretations of iconic DC Comics costumes, and Supergirl was no exception. Actress Laura Vandervoort played the character in the popular series, portraying a version of Supergirl that was noticeably more relaxed and everyday compared to other live-action depictions.

Vandervoort’s version of Kara Zor-El (also known as Kara Kent) used the traditional Supergirl colors, but in everyday clothes instead of a superhero costume. She wore a blue leather jacket, red skinny jeans, and a yellow t-shirt â all the colors you’d expect for Supergirl, just as regular street wear.

She eventually started wearing an outfit closer to the character’s comic book lookâa blue crop top and red skirtâbut she never fully adopted the traditional Kryptonian costume, unlike other live-action portrayals.
Supergirl (TV Series)
The Supergirl costume worn by Melissa Benoist in the Supergirl TV series is the closest match to the live-action suit Milly Alcock wears. It was an updated version of the classic design, featuring a textured fabric and a refreshed House of El symbol on the chest.

The costume for this version of Supergirl featured a noticeably different symbol than previous live-action iterations, moving away from yellow and emphasizing red and blue instead.

I noticed her suit was a much deeper blue than the one Alcock wore. Honestly, it reminded me more of Henry Cavillâs Superman costume from TV than the newer one Corenswet has. It just had that classic feel!
The Flash
As a huge superhero movie fan, I have to say Supergirl’s costume in The Flash is a really bold move. It’s the biggest change we’ve seen from her classic look in live-action, even more so than Smallville‘s take. Honestly, Sasha Calle’s Supergirl feels like a completely different character visually â a lot of the things we instantly recognize about her just aren’t there.

She wasn’t wearing red boots or a skirt; her outfit appeared to be made from a single piece of patterned material. It looked similar to Henry Cavillâs Superman costume, but with a bold red section across the shoulders to give it a unique touch.

As a result, the Supergirl appearance in The Flash was the most distinctly alien of any Supergirl costume seen so far, and it matched the dark and realistic tone of the DC Extended Universe perfectly.
Superman (2025)
Milly Alcock’s Supergirl will have a new costume in the upcoming Supergirl series. It’s different from the outfit she briefly wore when she appeared in Superman.

In the movie, Alcockâs character, playing a future version of Supergirl, unexpectedly arrived at Supermanâs Fortress of Solitude. She was looking for her dog, Krypto, and asked her cousin for help. Interestingly, her Supergirl costume at that moment looked like a version of David Corenswetâs Superman suit, but specifically tailored for her.

The suitâs design takes inspiration from David Corenswetâs Superman costume, with a textured, ridged appearance, a high collar, and the House of El crest reminiscent of the “Kingdom Come” comics. Like her comic book version, this Supergirl also wears the iconic red boots, skirt, and belt, though these have been updated slightly for her new movie.
