NetEase Is Ending Service For Its Newest Marvel Game After Less than a Year

When NetEase announced Marvel Mystic Mayhem, many Marvel fans—including me—were thrilled. This free-to-play RPG launched in June 2025, offering another mobile way to play with Marvel characters. Unfortunately, despite some initial excitement, it didn’t become as popular as NetEase and Marvel’s previous game, Marvel Rivals. Now, an in-game announcement confirms that NetEase is shutting down Marvel Mystic Mayhem after less than a year.

Players logging into Marvel Mystic Mayhem on December 24th received disappointing news: NetEase announced the game will be shutting down at the beginning of the new year. While some new content will be released through March 2026, certain features will become unavailable starting December 25th as the game prepares to close. Here’s a summary of the latest updates from NetEase regarding Marvel Mystic Mayhem.

Marvel Mystic Mayhem Shuts Down Microtransactions As Updates Wind Down

Hey everyone, so it’s not totally goodbye to Marvel Mystic Mayhem just yet! NetEase has said they’re still planning updates all the way through March 2026. We’re getting six new characters and one last story chapter, which should keep us busy until April 1st, 2026. After that, unfortunately, no more new content will be released. NetEase confirmed these will be the final characters added to the game.

  • Phoenix
  • Iceman
  • Venom
  • Wolverine
  • Cyclops
  • Morgan le Fay

New characters will be introduced gradually between December 25th, 2025, and March 19th, 2026. After March 19th, 2026, no further characters will be added to the game.

Game shutting down in April

NetEase hasn’t decided whether to shut down the game servers yet. They’ve promised players 60 days’ notice before any shutdown happens, and a final decision is expected next year. This announcement will probably come closer to the currently planned end date of April 2026.

NetEase is ending updates for Marvel Mystic Mayhem and is making some changes before it does. Starting December 25th, in-app purchases will be turned off. However, players will receive free in-game currency to enjoy new content being released up until early 2026, including a free Battle Pass until updates stop on April 1st. This means it will be easier for everyone to experience the final six characters and the last chapter of Marvel Mystic Mayhem without spending any money.

The mobile game Marvel Mystic Mayhem, which launched on June 25th, 2025, will stop being available on April 1st, meaning it will have been available for less than a year. While players anticipated the game would eventually end, the shutdown is happening sooner than many expected, with one Reddit user commenting that it was “WAY faster than expected.”

Currently, NetEase doesn’t seem to be removing the game completely. They’ll probably share any decisions about taking it offline, as well as what will happen with the game servers, early next year.
