10 2025 DC Stories You Need to Read

2025 has been a fantastic year for DC Comics. Their high-end Absolute editions became the best-selling comics, earning rave reviews. The ‘DC All-In’ initiative, launched in 2024, successfully refreshed their core superhero titles, and the Black Label imprint consistently released excellent books. The popularity of Superman drew a lot of people into comic shops – even more than Marvel’s movies – and DC capitalized on that momentum perfectly. Overall, it’s been a remarkable time to be a DC fan, with the publisher rebuilding its multiverse and reminding everyone what makes these heroes and villains so special. Simply put, DC delivered the best superhero stories of 2025, without a doubt.

DC Comics released some truly outstanding stories this year, making it tough to choose the very best. They’ve consistently delivered for fans, and 2025 was a fantastic year for the publisher. While 2026 promises more great content, let’s celebrate the highlights of the past year. Here are ten essential DC Comics stories from 2025 that you won’t want to miss. (Just a note: DC K.O. is excellent too, but since it concludes in 2026, we’ve saved it for a future list – definitely check it out when it’s finished!)

10) Supergirl (Vol. 8) #1-4

As a huge Supergirl fan, I’m so excited about the movie coming in 2026, which is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow! To get us ready, DC launched a new comic series by Sophie Campbell, and honestly, it’s fantastic. This new Supergirl run (Vol. 8) starts with a story called “Adventures in Midvale,” and it’s the perfect way to rediscover the character. It throws you right back into Kara Zor-El’s world, but with a really interesting twist: she returns to Midvale to find that everyone’s forgotten her, and there’s already another Supergirl in town, living her life! She teams up with Lena Luthor to reclaim her identity, and the story is just a great mix of everyday life and superhero action. It feels fresh and modern, but still honors everything that makes Supergirl special. It’s everything you want in a Supergirl story – a truly amazing start to what’s shaping up to be one of the best series of 2025.

9) Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman

Tom King’s run on Wonder Woman sparked debate, but it also delivered one of the most enjoyable comic series of recent years. His follow-up, Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman (with art by Belen Ortega), is a clever and emotional story. It features three different ages of Wonder Woman’s daughter, who team up to travel through time and rescue their friends Damian Wayne and Jon Kent. These two have been magically turned into corgis and sent to the past! The series is a rollercoaster of emotions – genuinely funny one moment and surprisingly touching the next. Belen Ortega’s artwork perfectly captures both the humor and the heartfelt moments of the story.

8) Batman #1

While Batman comics are consistently popular, they don’t always receive widespread critical acclaim. That changed with the 2025 release of Batman #1, a standout issue by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez. Taking over after a decent but unremarkable run by Chip Zdarsky, Fraction launched a new era for the character with a captivating first issue. The story, featuring Batman pursuing a uniquely mutated Killer Croc, revitalizes a familiar plot with a special and moving approach. It’s an exciting and heartfelt introduction to this new direction for the Dark Knight. Artist Jorge Jimenez is aiming to become the defining Batman artist of the 21st century, delivering stunning artwork that truly enhances the narrative. This is a perfect Batman comic, and well worth reading.

7) “We Are Yesterday”

Since its release in 2022, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest has been DC’s standout title, brilliantly reimagining early team-ups between the two iconic heroes. The creative team of Mark Waid and Dan Mora delivered consistently excellent superhero stories. Their previous collaborations on titles like Shazam and Absolute Power prepared them for this, and eventually Justice League Unlimited. The crossover event, “We Are Yesterday,” brings together the past versions of Batman and Superman from World’s Finest with the Justice League Unlimited team to face off against both the current Gorilla Grodd and a classic Legion of Doom. This time-bending story features Grodd attempting to seize ultimate power across multiple eras. With art from Waid, Mora, Clayton Henry, and Travis Moore, this epic storyline connects to DC K.O. and exemplifies DC’s knack for thrilling, complex action. “We Are Yesterday” is a truly exceptional and wildly entertaining superhero adventure.

6) “Legion of Darkseid”

Since its 2023 reboot, Superman has been a standout title for DC, playing a crucial role in setting up the larger ‘DC K.O.’ event planned for 2025. The recent storyline, “Legion of Darkseid,” brilliantly paid off a plot thread introduced in DC All-In #1. After Superman is attacked by a legion of Darkseids from a future he’s conquered, the Time Trapper offers help to rescue Booster Gold, hoping to prevent Darkseid’s apocalyptic plans. Their first task? Recruit an unlikely ally: Superboy-Prime. This story is a thrilling superhero adventure, full of surprises and packed with action. Writer Joshua Williamson and artist Dan Mora consistently deliver great work, but this story feels like their best yet. Seeing a fantastic take on Superboy-Prime is a highlight, but the entire story is simply excellent.

5) Absolute Batman Annual #1

Fans have loved Absolute Batman, and it’s been a huge success, offering a fresh take on the character. But the standout issue wasn’t actually part of the main series – it was Absolute Batman Annual #1. This special issue features two stories: one by Daniel Warren Johnson and another by James Warren, and it’s easily one of the best comics of the year. Johnson’s story is a flashback where Batman confronts a group of white supremacists attempting to drive people out of their neighborhood, all while uncovering a connection to his father’s past. It’s a story that truly needs to be experienced. Johnson masterfully blends heartfelt character development with incredible action sequences, creating some truly stunning pages. Warren’s story, while not as impactful, is equally well-done, focusing on a son grappling with the consequences of his father’s actions. Overall, this comic is remarkable – it sparked a lot of discussion and explores the complex relationship between fathers and sons in two very different, yet compelling, ways.

4) Absolute Wonder Woman #1-7

DC’s Absolute books are exceptional, offering fresh and compelling takes on beloved characters. While all six titles have been well-received, Absolute Wonder Woman, by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, is widely considered the best. Thompson and Sherman have crafted a definitive version of Diana, and the first seven issues, collected as “The Last Amazon,” deliver everything fans could hope for. Thompson expertly highlights Diana’s inherent heroism and compassion, beautifully complemented by Sherman’s stunning artwork. This is Wonder Woman at her finest, and a must-read for both longtime fans and anyone looking for a fantastic story.

3) Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum

As a horror fan, I absolutely loved Ice Cream Man, so I was genuinely surprised to see its creators, W. Maxwell Prince and Martin Morazzo, tackle a Superman story! And what a story it was – Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum. Basically, a meteor packed with brand new types of Kryptonite crashes to Earth, and Superman has to team up with Batman to figure out what each one does, all while dealing with another one of Lex Luthor’s schemes. It’s a really unique book. If I had to compare it to something, I’d say it has the same hopeful, artistic vibe as All-Star Superman, but it’s totally its own thing. 2025 was a great year for Superman comics overall, but The Kryptonite Spectrum really stood out as something special. It’s easily one of the best Superman stories I’ve read in a long time.

2) Absolute Martian Manhunter #1-6

For many fans, Absolute Wonder Woman was the highlight of DC’s Absolute line until Absolute Martian Manhunter arrived. This book, created by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez, tells the story of John Jones, an FBI agent linked to a Green Martian consciousness. Together, they protect the town of Middleton from a White Martian invasion, all while Jones struggles with his personal life. Absolute Martian Manhunter brilliantly combines compelling storytelling with stunning artwork, making each issue a visual and mental treat. This six-issue series is considered a masterpiece of comic book art, with images that will stay with you long after you finish reading. It truly lives up to the hype—and even surpasses it. You owe it to yourself to experience it.

1) Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma

Ram V is currently one of the most exciting writers in comics. His work for both DC and Marvel offers a fresh perspective, and his independent comics are consistently excellent. In 2025, he collaborated with Anand RK on Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma, a story featuring the often-overlooked DC character, Mitch Shelley. This comic presents the immortal Resurrection Man with his most difficult challenge yet – a relentless enemy determined to destroy him and a mysterious ally who might hold the key to saving the universe. Ram V and Anand RK deliver a captivating and emotional journey, exploring the burdens of immortality. The story is beautifully illustrated, and includes pages drawn by the late Jackson Guice, a fitting tribute to the Resurrection Man co-creator. Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma is a standout comic of 2025, and well worth seeking out. While you’re at it, don’t miss Ram V and Evan Cagle’s New Gods #1-12, which is another exceptional work.
