Marvel Unveils Moon Knight From The Crusades That Killed a Major Villain

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with over two decades under my belt, I must say that Marvel’s “Phases of the Moon Knight” #1 has truly caught my attention. The intriguing concept of multiple Moon Knights throughout history is a fresh take on an already captivating character.

The first installment of Marvel’s “Moon Knight Chronicles” is now available, expanding on the captivating mythos of Moon Knight and the numerous individuals who have served Khonshu throughout history. This book explores the idea that while Marc Spector is currently Moon Knight, Khonshu’s immortal nature means there have been many others to wield the title and its responsibilities over time. Notably, “Moon Knight Chronicles” introduces a brand new Moon Knight character from the Crusades era, who played a significant role in defeating a major Marvel antagonist.

Title #1 of Moon Knight presents two tales about the character, and it’s within the second story, titled “Crusader,” written by Benjamin Percy and illustrated by Rod Reis, where our fresh protagonist emerges. This narrative introduces us to a knight named Cassian who begins to question the morality of fighting in the name of his deity. However, circumstances lead him to Khonshu’s temple, where he is given the opportunity to serve another god – Khonshu. Initially hesitant, Cassian encounters the remains of other crusaders, followed by a silver scarab guiding him towards construction workers overseen by none other than En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse.

For Cassian, seeing slaves construct grand structures like castles and pyramids, which served as hiding places for kings to wield power, ignited a passion within him – a cause greater than his faith in God: a crusade against oppressive rulers. Yet, confronting En Sabah Nur isn’t simple, and Cassian, in the end, accepts Khonshu’s proposal, transforming into Moon Knight, and ultimately vanquishing En Sabah Nur. However, triumph comes at a cost, leaving Cassian questioning whether he has unwittingly transformed into the very thing he detests most.
