How Eminem’s Daughter Hailie Jade Is Adjusting to Motherhood

For Hailie Jade McClintock, it’s been a year of losing herself in the moment.

Eminem’s daughter, Hailie, and her husband, Evan McClintock, welcomed their first child, a son named Elliot Marshall McClintock, on March 14th. This Christmas, and Hailie’s 30th birthday on December 25th, are set to be extra special, but the arrival of Elliot has already made this a truly life-changing time.

As many TikTok videos she watched for guidance and reassurance confirmed, this was a perfectly normal reaction.

In a recent episode of her podcast, Just a Little Shady, Hailie shared that becoming a mom has led her to constantly search for information online. ‘I’m always Googling what babies should be doing at six months,’ she admitted. While she knows every baby develops at their own pace, looking things up helps her feel more confident as a parent.

Even though Hailie isn’t posting many pictures of her baby, social media has been a source of support for her.

However, a particularly charming video she shared from the Detroit Lions’ Thanksgiving game – showing Elliot wearing large noise-canceling headphones – was a notable exception to the usual pattern.

Hailie explained to her podcast co-host, Brittany Ednie, that she’s stopped sharing monthly photos of her son, Evan. She said that after missing one month, she received unsettling messages from people demanding to know where the picture was and expressing anger about it. Because of this, she and her family are taking a break from sharing those photos publicly.

She continued, saying she was confident she’d continue to share updates and talk about all the exciting things he was up to.

Hailie has explained that she finally understands why her father, Marshall Mathers III, has always been cautious about his public image throughout his 30-year career.

You know, it took me a while to really get what my dad was going through. He always wanted to shield us from the craziness, but he was also SO proud of his kids, and wanted to share that with the world. It’s totally how I feel now! I love sharing the happy, amazing moments – especially now that I’m a mom myself – but I’m also really careful about what I share. Some things are just too special to share with everyone, you know? They’re just for us, to keep private and cherish.

Eminem is a father to Alaina Scott, who is expecting a baby, and Stevie Laine Scott. He generally keeps his personal life private, though he often expresses his vulnerabilities through his music, particularly his anxieties about being a good father to Hailie. His 2024 music video for “Temporary” offered a rare look at his close relationship with his daughters, including a touching moment where Hailie, who is pregnant, gifted him a Detroit Lions jersey that said “Grandpa” on it.

In a 2020 interview on Mike Tyson’s YouTube show, Hotboxin’, Eminem said that raising his children is likely what he’s most proud of. He emphasized the importance of keeping kids grounded, especially given his public life, and dismissed the idea that money equals happiness. He believes inner peace and well-being are far more important, stating that without them, success means nothing.

And Hailie is nothing if not bursting with pride about where she comes from.

Hailie was hoping her son, Elliot, would arrive before his April 4th due date. On her podcast, she shared she’d been particularly hoping for either March 13th – a nod to Detroit’s area code, 313 – or March 15th, which was her grandmother’s birthday.

Pi Day (3/14) proved to be “the happy medium.”

Although she described Elliot’s birth as perfect, the time after was challenging. Hailie admitted to experiencing intense anxiety and intrusive thoughts, from sudden fears of simple accidents like tripping, to waking up panicked after falling asleep while her baby was nearby.

And when she needed extra help, she admittedly turned to TikTok.

It’s so creepy, but honestly, I always joke about my phone listening to me, and it’s totally true! Whenever I really needed to see something, like a specific video, it would just… appear. Seriously! I’d be having a total mom-guilt moment, like, ‘Ugh, am I a terrible parent if I take some time for myself and go to the gym?’ and then BAM – a video about it would show up. It’s like it knows what I’m thinking!

And TikTok was always there to assure her, she recalled, “This is normal, calm down, you’re OK.”

Hailie shared that becoming a mother has given her a much deeper understanding and gratitude for her own parents, as well as for her friends who are also raising children.

Honestly, things had improved for me and Elliot after eight months, but I wasn’t running on that initial new-mom energy anymore. In the beginning, I could push through the tiredness, but now, it was really starting to hit me. That early adrenaline had definitely worn off!

She explained that their sleep is inconsistent – some nights are good, others aren’t. When they have a good night followed by a bad one, she feels completely thrown off and struggles to cope.

On the December 12th episode of her podcast, Hailie recounted a recent experience – flying her son, Elliot, to Florida and back for a wedding. She described the trip as going well initially, but the return flight was difficult, and she shared what she learned from the situation.

She pointed out that when traveling with children, remember a parent is far more upset by a crying baby than anyone else. It’s best to avoid making audible reactions or comments.

Looking back on the past eight months, I’ve realized how much has changed. It’s been a real rollercoaster – some incredible highs, some tough lows, but mostly just a period of huge learning and enjoyment. It truly feels like a fresh start, and it’s given me a whole new perspective on what really matters.

And as Eminem prepares to be a grandpa again, here’s an explainer on the rapper’s family tree:

Kimberly Ann Scott, originally from Michigan, was Eminem’s high school girlfriend. They had a daughter, Hailie Jade, in 1995.

Kim and Eminem were married from 1999 to 2001, and again briefly in 2006. Their difficult relationship has been featured in several of Eminem’s songs, such as ’97 Bonnie & Clyde,’ ‘Puke,’ and ‘Bad Husband.’

Kim described a recurring cycle in her relationship, explaining in a 2007 interview with 20/20 that they typically had a good run for about two years before things would fall apart. She felt they hadn’t reached that two-year mark yet and didn’t want to push things forward prematurely.

However, Kim noted that Eminem has always been an “excellent” father.

“He loves the kids very much,” she shared. “He’s always lending a helping hand.”

Eminem and Kim had their daughter, Hailie, on December 25, 1995. The rapper has said that her birth was a turning point, motivating him to get his life on track.

In 2001, Eminem told Q magazine that everything he was working on was to provide for his daughter, Hailie, specifically to cover her future college expenses.

She grew up largely in the Detroit area, living with Eminem during her teenage years. Later, she went to Michigan State University where she studied psychology and met her future husband, Evan McClintock. The couple got engaged in 2023 and married in May 2024.

Eminem shared in a 2020 interview with Mike Tyson that his daughter, Hailie Jade, graduated college with a 3.9 GPA. He said, ‘She’s doing great, and she’s definitely made me proud.’

Hailie announced she was expecting her first child with Evan in October 2024. They welcomed a son, Elliot Marshall McClintock, in March 2025.

Born on Feb. 22, 1993, Alaina is the daughter of Kim’s sister Dawn Scott

In the early 2000s, Eminem took legal custody of his niece because her mother was battling addiction. He explained to Rolling Stone in 2004 that he had full custody of his niece and shared custody of his daughter, Hailie. He’d always been a consistent presence in Hailie’s life, and his niece had been raised alongside her, living with him and Kim wherever they were.

Alaina Marie Mathers, who was primarily raised by Eminem, considers him a father figure and asked him to walk her down the aisle when she married Matt Moeller in June 2023.

After the wedding, where Hailie was her Maid of Honor, she told People magazine, ‘He wouldn’t have missed it for the world! I’m so incredibly grateful to my dad—none of this would have happened without him.’

Her mother passed away in 2016 at the age of 41.

In October 2025, she revealed that she was pregnant with her and Matt’s first child, a baby girl.

Kim and her boyfriend at the time, Eric Hartter, had Stevie on April 16, 2002. Eminem legally adopted Stevie three years later, in 2005, after getting back together with Kim.

Okay, so like, I was SO thrilled when Stevie came out as nonbinary in August 2021! It was amazing to see them share that they use all pronouns in a TikTok – honestly, it just felt so right and so authentically them. It made me so happy to know they were sharing that part of themselves with the world, and I’m just here for it!

They added in the caption, “forever growing and changing.”

Born in 1955 at a military base in Kansas, Debbie is the mother of Eminem.

In her 2008 memoir, My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem, she revealed she married Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr., the father of the artist known as Eminem, when she was just 15 years old. Sixteen months later, she became pregnant with Eminem and moved to Michigan to be near her grandmother.

The difficult relationship between Debbie and Eminem has appeared in his music, most notably in his 2002 song “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” In the song, he claimed his mother struggled with prescription pill abuse during his childhood, an accusation she refuted in her autobiography.

She wondered, ‘What mother wants to be labeled an alcoholic who relies on public assistance?’ She explained that none of the accusations were true, but the lies continued to grow, eventually leading to a breakdown in her relationship with Marshall.

Eminem later said he regretted making his family problems public. In his 2013 song “Headlights,” he admitted he didn’t consider the impact of his words, rapping, “I didn’t think about who I hurt with what I said, and my mom probably suffered the most.”

Nelson died at the age of 69 in 2024 following a battle with cancer.
