In a fresh turn of events, a group of Marvel superheroes will soon take center stage in their own series, yet some fans might recognize them from previous appearances. Despite the presence of well-known teams like the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, Marvel has consistently introduced and solidified new groups, some even becoming popular fixtures in households. For instance, the original lineup of Young Avengers comprised characters who were relatively unknown to readers. Hence, it’s not uncommon for new characters to resonate with a wider comic book audience. Marvel is optimistic that this will be the case with their latest sneak peek.
Marvel has unveiled a sneak peek for an upcoming comic book series set to launch in January, titled “New Heroes Unite to Reshape Reality!” This is according to the press release issued by Marvel. Keep an eye out this week for more details regarding this new Marvel comic that will be released next month. The teaser artwork features the phrase “Reshape Reality” with a group of young, unfamiliar heroes appearing in the backdrop of the letters. Interestingly, these characters might have made an appearance or been introduced in another Marvel series before.
Meet Marvel’s Assembly
Previously, Marvel launched its New Champions Variant Cover Program, where prominent artists designed variant covers showcasing hidden allies for characters like Black Cat, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and others. Marvel hinted that these characters might play significant roles in their universe, suggesting that “these breathtaking new covers could possibly offer a peek into the future of the Marvel Universe!
In the recently released trailer, several characters from the New Champions Variants make an appearance, such as Amaranth, Scarlet Witch’s protege. This team, officially known as The Assembly, first appeared in issue #7 of Spider-Woman, although they were hinted at earlier in the Timeless end-of-year one-shot and in the opening issue of Web of Spider-Man. The team consists of Cadet Marvel, Hellrune, Titan, Moon Squire, and Liberty. All these characters are featured in this intriguing teaser. It’s worth noting that The Assembly has connections to Hydra, which could play a significant role in their upcoming spinoff series.
Are The Assembly replacing the Young Avengers?
Although it might appear unusual that Marvel is introducing a team of youthful superheroes when the Young Avengers are yet to take center stage, it’s clear that a continuing Young Avengers series is imminent. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been gradually paving the way for the Young Avengers, most recently with Ms. Marvel selecting Kate Bishop as Hawkeye in the post-credits scene of “The Marvels.” It seems likely that Marvel Comics will coordinate the launch of a new Young Avengers volume to coincide with their MCU project, which may well be a series streaming on Disney+.
In the Marvel universe, Kathryn Newton from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania expressed her aspiration for Cassie Lang’s character to become a Young Avenger, as hinted by The Marvels. She wants to grow alongside her character, mirroring the audience’s journey who watched Iron Man. Whether it’s the older fans who saw Quantumania or the younger ones just starting with Marvel movies, Newton hopes Cassie Lang can share this cinematic adventure.
