In the thrilling conclusion of “Ironheart”, one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest heroes experienced an extraordinary power enhancement that would make even Iron Man envious. Since Robert Downey Jr.’s departure in “Avengers: Endgame”, the MCU has been missing a significant armored hero like Iron Man. However, with Downey Jr. set to appear as Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”, Marvel Studios has now introduced Tony Stark’s legacy hero. Dominique Thorne’s character, Riri Williams, made a triumphant comeback as Ironheart.
Instead of the standard armored superhero, Ironheart deviates from the norm. Where Tony Stark enhanced his armor suits with extraordinary weapons and unforeseen abilities, Riri Williams’ latest Ironheart suit has undergone an upgrade that leaves even Stark puzzled. Following her pact with the malevolent villain Mephisto (portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen) in the finale of “Ironheart,” titled “The Past Is the Past,” Riri is reunited with her revived best friend, Natalie (played by Lyric Ross), in her stepfather’s garage. In this scene, Riri’s Ironheart suit, now outfitted with the enigmatic Hood, can be seen standing in the background.
Earlier, the Hood belonged to Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos), who employed it for petty crimes and hostile takeovers of his father’s businesses in Chicago. However, despite not utilizing its full potential, the Hood was negatively affecting Parker on a biological and psychological level. In his confrontation with Ironheart at Desperito’s Pizzeria, Parker transformed into a truly terrifying form due to the Hood’s manipulation. It was later revealed by Zelma Stanton (Regan Aliyah) that this change was caused because the Hood contained energy from the Dark Dimension, where Dormammu, as ruled by Doctor Strange, resides.
Regardless of the risks involved, the Hood offers its wielder extraordinary might. In the third season of What If…?, both Parker Robbins and Xu Xialing exhibited the talent to become invisible and enhance their combat abilities, as well as controlling unstable magic. In 2016’s Doctor Strange, Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) and his followers harnessed energy from the Dark Dimension to manipulate reality at their whim. This could potentially bestow Ironheart with immense power, positioning her for a highly potent future if Dominique Thorne reappears in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
It’s uncertain if Riri Williams has donned the Hood, but her association with Mephisto, who previously owned it and gave it to Parker Robbins, appears to be tainting her. There’s a chance that Riri may have used the Ironheart suit in conjunction with the Hood, which could explain the mysterious veins on her arm. Additionally, we’ve seen Xu Xialing become corrupted by the Hood in ‘What If…?’, suggesting that Riri Williams might face similar challenges following her appearance in ‘Ironheart’. Despite this, the Hood makes Riri one of the MCU’s strongest emerging heroes with a dark edge.
