The new animated special, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, is set between seasons 2 and 3 of the show. According to showrunner Eric Robles, fitting the story into that timeframe was tricky, especially because Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down at the end of season 2. The team needed a way to introduce new monsters without being able to directly access the Upside Down, and Robles found a solution by carefully examining the existing storyline for possibilities. He explained, “I really dug into the show looking for any way to make it work, and I eventually landed on an idea that I thought was perfect.”
