The acclaimed Christopher Nolan movie, titled “Oppenheimer,” has just been added to Netflix and is rapidly climbing the rankings.
In 2023, one of the year’s largest films, titled Oppenheimer, garnered seven Academy Awards, securing its place among the most triumphant biographical movies ever made.
Cillian Murphy takes the main role portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American scientist who later earned the title “the father of the atomic bomb.
The story of Oppenheimer is presented across various timeframes, seamlessly transitioning between monochrome and color footage, offering a glimpse into life prior to and subsequent to the development of the atomic bomb.
The movie delves into the life of the individual deeply involved in the Manhattan Project, the development that ultimately led to a world-altering bomb, while also exploring his intricate personal relationships, particularly with his wife, Kitty, and his mistress, Jean Tatlock.
In a stellar ensemble, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, and Matt Damon teamed up with Murphy for the film, which ranked third in box office earnings of 2023, trailing only Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and The Super Mario Bros Movie based on a video game.
In the year 2024, during the Academy Awards, the movie dominated the event. Christopher Nolan took home the Best Director award, while Murphy clinched the Best Actor title, and Downey Jr was recognized with the Best Supporting Actor accolade. Additionally, the film itself was awarded Best Picture.
In just two days following its premiere on Netflix, “Oppenheimer” has climbed up to the fourth spot in the UK’s streaming service rankings. With continued strong viewership, it could potentially dethrone Tyler Perry’s “Madea’s Destination Wedding,” currently holding the number one position.
In the rankings, Animation K-Pop Demon Hunters holds the second position, and Brick, a foreign-language thriller, comes in third.
