Cyclops hasn’t always been a central figure in the X-Men films, but the previews for Avengers: Doomsday suggest that might be changing. It looks like he’ll finally get the prominent role he deserves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially recognizing him as the X-Men’s greatest strategist. Interestingly, even in the older Fox movies, Cyclops had several strong moments. Despite being killed off without much fanfare in X-Men: The Last Stand, he still had opportunities to showcase his abilities in other films.
From the first X-Men movies through all the sequels and related films, here’s a look at the most memorable moments for the character Cyclops, showcasing why he’s such a great hero.
7) Cyclops Discovers His Powers

In X-Men: Apocalypse, there’s a scene where Scott Summers’ mutant powers first appear. It happens during his high school years, and it’s portrayed as a sudden and overwhelming experience, similar to the changes of puberty. Throughout the day, Scott suffers from headaches and vision problems. This culminates in a confrontation with a bully in the school bathroom, which triggers his mutation. He unintentionally unleashes a powerful blast that destroys the bathroom door and damages the surrounding walls and ceiling. The scene effectively demonstrates just how dangerous Cyclops’ powers are when he lacks control.
6) Cyclops Meets Jean Grey

Cyclops isn’t always known for using his eye beams to cause destruction, and one of his best scenes in X-Men: Apocalypse highlights a more tender moment. While touring the Xavier Institute, Cyclops was blindfolded because he couldn’t control his powers. He accidentally bumped into Jean Grey, scattering her books. She then reached out to him with her thoughts, which frustrated him, and he asked her to stop reading his mind.
Seeing her for the first time after putting on his visor completely captivated him, and he immediately went to apologize. He noticed other students were keeping their distance and staring, leading him to believe they feared his abilities. However, Jean explained they were actually scared of her, and that’s when they really began to connect.
5) Cyclops Impresses Professor X

Before Professor X had a visor to help control his powers, he asked Cyclops to demonstrate them by aiming at a target across the pond. Unfortunately, Cyclops hadn’t learned to control his blasts yet. He not only destroyed the target, but also split a nearby tree completely in half. Professor X explained that the tree had been planted by his grandfather and was very special to him. Worried about getting in trouble, Scott asked if he was being expelled, but Xavier surprised him by inviting him to join the Xavier Institute instead.
4) Cyclops Helps Free Mutants in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Most fans agree that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the weakest film in the X-Men series. Despite its overall reputation, it had some bright spots, like a thrilling opening sequence set during wartime and a fresh take on the character Sabretooth. The movie also presented an opportunity to improve Cyclops, who hadn’t shined in previous films. In a flashback, young Scott Summers was held captive by Weapon X alongside another mutant named Emma, who possessed diamond-based powers similar to Emma Frost. During their escape, Emma used her abilities to shield them from bullets, while Scott unleashed a powerful energy blast, impressively eliminating all the guards. This was the first time the movies truly showcased his offensive capabilities.
3) Cyclops in the Train Station

I remember being totally blown away by Cyclops’ powers in the first X-Men movie! He gave us a little taste of what he could do when he and Storm rescued Rogue and Wolverine from Sabretooth, but it wasn’t until the train station scene that I really saw what he was capable of. They were looking for Rogue, who had run off, and of course, Sabretooth and Toad showed up. When Sabretooth went after Storm, Toad ripped off Scott’s visor! That’s when everything went crazy – Cyclops lost control and blasted holes right through the train station ceiling. It was a huge display of power, and it showed just how dangerous his optic blasts could be!
2) Cyclops Shows the Mastery of His Powers

One scene in the first X-Men movie perfectly demonstrated Scott Summers’ control over his abilities. While other scenes showed the sheer destructive force of his powers, this one highlighted his precision and ability to save lives. When Toad covered Jean Grey’s face with his slimy substance, causing her to suffocate, Scott carefully used his optic blasts at a low intensity to remove the slime without harming her, effectively saving her life. It was a masterful display of control and accuracy.
1) Cyclops Vs. Apocalypse’s Horsemen

Surprisingly, one of the less popular X-Men films actually did the best job of showcasing Cyclops’s potential. Though X-Men: Apocalypse wasn’t the strongest of the prequel movies, it presented Cyclops at his most powerful. In the comics, Cyclops is renowned as the X-Men’s greatest tactical leader, a master of planning and adapting in battle to achieve victory. This film, while featuring a younger Scott Summers, allowed us to see him in action against Apocalypse and his Horsemen. His display of power was truly impressive, and even though he couldn’t defeat Apocalypse, he proved himself a formidable fighter – it was arguably Cyclops’s best moment in all the X-Men movies.
