As an ardent admirer of journalism and the heroes who embody its essence, I find myself deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Chauncy Glover. A beacon of light in the world of news and a true champion for his community, his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations.
Los Angeles CBS affiliate KCAL is mourning the loss of a beloved anchor.
It’s been reported that Chauncy Glover, a well-known news journalist who won an Emmy and anchored in the evenings on a network, passed away at the age of 39. This sad news was confirmed by his family.
Sherry and Robert Glover, together with Chauncy’s cherished family, are heartbroken over the unfathomable sorrow of losing their treasured Chauncy. They penned a statement to KCAL, expressing that he was not just a son and brother, but a shining light in our lives and a genuine hero to his community.
Chauncy’s family honored his work beyond the newsroom, recognizing projects such as The Chauncy Glover Project and a mentorship program he established. This program was initiated following an unfortunate incident where he witnessed a teen’s death during an assignment in Michigan. Its purpose was to empower young men from disadvantaged areas by helping them dress smartly and ultimately transform into respected figures within society, as he described on the organization’s website.
And it is that passion for building community is what his family sees as his legacy.
Through his kindness and commitment to aiding others, particularly through the Chauncy Glover Project, Chauncy significantly impacted countless lives and served as a powerful inspiration for many young men in their pursuit of dreams. His abilities, charm, and vision made an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and the world is less vibrant without him.
Those close to him expressed, ‘Although we deeply mourn this immense loss, we find solace in the abundance of love and reminiscences from those who recognized Chauncy’s passionate, talented spirit. We humbly request seclusion as we grieve and celebrate his remarkable legacy. Taken away prematurely, his influence will endure eternally.’
His cause of death has not been shared.
Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, I, Chauncey, kick-started my journey as an actor, gracing several Off-Broadway stages before transitioning into a role as a motivational speaker. I commenced my broadcast career in Columbus, Georgia, and subsequently moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and later to Detroit, Michigan—where I was honored with three Emmys for my exceptional reporting skills.
In October 2023, he began working at KCAL in Los Angeles. There, he teamed up with Pat Harvey for the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. news broadcasts, while partnering with Suzie Suh for the 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. news programs. His love for journalism was ignited at a young age, which he was able to fulfill thanks to his father’s support.
Previously, Chauncy shared with KCAL that he had long cherished the desire to pursue this endeavor. His father constructed a miniature news desk for him when he was just five years old, and every Sunday after church, he would conduct his own mini-newscast. His fascination with reading, writing, and storytelling, coupled with the desire to keep people informed, ignited early on. Thus, it was clear to him from a young age that this was something he wanted to do, and it remains a deep-seated passion for him.
