Marvel Replaces Thanos With Evil Reed Richards In Official Endgame-Inspired Poster

Marvel recently revealed a new poster inspired by Avengers: Endgame, but with a surprising twist: instead of Thanos, it features a villain connected to the Fantastic Four. This hints at the upcoming end of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, which will culminate in a battle against the Maker – a dangerous, evil version of Reed Richards who originally created that universe. Like Thanos in the 2019 Avengers: Endgame movie, the Maker is a powerful villain with nothing left to lose, and is expected to fight ruthlessly to protect his creation.

In July 2025, Marvel Comics revealed a poster for its upcoming event series, Ultimate Endgame. The poster is identical to the main character poster from Avengers: Endgame.

The latest Marvel poster reveals a revamped Avengers lineup. Spider-Man, Black Panther, and a brand-new hero named Maystorm now stand where Thor, Hulk, and Captain Marvel used to be. The poster also shows a change of villains, with the Maker – an alternate version of Reed Richards – taking over as the main threat instead of Thanos. This confirms the Maker’s role as the big bad in the Ultimate Universe storyline.

The Maker is a consistently dangerous threat across multiple universes, and he’s even more formidable than many realize. Unlike Thanos, who aimed to eliminate half of all life, the Maker wants to prevent heroes from ever becoming powerful in the first place. This makes his plans far more destructive, as he seeks to completely erase the existence of beloved characters.

Deniz Camp writes Ultimate Endgame #1, with Terry Dodson and Jonas Scharf providing the artwork. This new issue is set to conclude the ‘Ultimate Invasion’ story, but the final battle between the Maker and the remaining Marvel heroes will have significant consequences.

Ultimate Endgame # 1 will be released in comic stores on December 31.

Who Is the Maker & Will the MCU Introduce Its Own Version?

The Maker, who first appeared in the Ultimate Marvel comics, is a dark reflection of Reed Richards. He’s driven by immense intelligence, a huge ego, and the lasting effects of past trauma.

This version of Reed Richards comes from a universe filled with hardship. He’s experienced immense loss, including a near-fatal incident involving Sue Storm and the death of Franklin Storm due to the devastating Ultimatum Wave. This wave was triggered by Magneto’s attempt to end the world after the deaths of his children, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

Reed Richards’ shift into the villain known as the Maker was completed when the Fantastic Four fell apart. Now, as the Maker, his aim is to rebuild the world in his own image, making him a dangerous enemy across multiple realities.

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced its own Reed Richards, fans are speculating about the possibility of seeing the Maker – an evil version of the character – appear in future movies and shows. With Doctor Doom already posing a significant threat, and the Multiverse Saga heading towards a big finale, the chances of an evil Reed Richards variant appearing are small, but not impossible. There’s still a potential path for the character to be introduced.

In the Avengers: Secret Wars storyline, Doctor Doom might manipulate events to portray Reed Richards as the main villain. This could push Reed to fully become his ‘Maker’ persona, while positioning Doom as the hero who must save the world from his old enemy.
