Information about a remastered version of Oblivion for PlayStation 5 as a physical edition has been revealed by UK retailers. The Game Collection has announced that they will begin taking pre-orders for these boxed copies today, with the game scheduled to launch in October 2025.
To address numerous inquiries from fans, the website fails to provide clarity if the RPG will come preloaded on the PS5 game disc or if it needs to be downloaded separately. This ambiguity has sparked concern among PlayStation users, given that previous Xbox versions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, as well as DOOM: The Dark Ages, contained minimal game data on their physical discs.
Ever since its digital launch for PS5 in April, several updates or patches have been rolled out for Oblivion Remastered to address problems that made the game less enjoyable as time went on. At present, Update 1.2 is undergoing testing on PC platforms and is expected to be available on PS5 soon. Given that the whole game appears to be included in the PS5 disc, one would hope it will include the most recent, improved version.
In our review of Oblivion Remastered on PS5, we gave a score of 7/10 and noted: “Despite some performance problems and repetitive design aspects, credit should be given to Virtuos and Bethesda for reviving Oblivion in a way that preserves the original concept while adding to its iconic personality developed over time. This version could be considered the ultimate Oblivion experience – once any initial kinks have been smoothed out.
