The live-action Last Ronin movie has been put on hold because Paramount is now developing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. With Neal H. Moritz producing the new project, the studio decided it didn’t have room for the darker, R-rated Last Ronin movie. While fans eager to see this gritty take on Michelangelo facing tougher enemies will likely be disappointed, this news wasn’t entirely unexpected for a few reasons.

Kurt Russell’s journey into science fiction started with the 1969 Disney film, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, where he played Dexter Riley, a character who gains computer-like abilities after an electric shock. While the movie wasn’t a major success, Russell persevered and eventually starred in John Carpenter’s acclaimed The Thing.
