Keiichi Toyama, the creative force behind games like Slitterhead, Silent Hill, and Siren, is building a team for a new, ambitious game. He announced this through a public letter on the Japanese job site HRMOS, stating he’s actively hiring more developers for the project.
Hey everyone, I’m Keiichiro Toyama, and I run Bokeh Game Studio. We finally released our first game, Slitterhead, last November. Honestly, we were asking ourselves if we could actually pull it off – could we build a game, with this team, and the way we wanted to work? Getting Slitterhead out there feels like we’ve answered that question, and now we’re really ready to get started!
At Bokeh Game Studio, originality is central to everything we do. We focus on creating games that are unique – things no other studio could. It’s not about being strange; it’s about constantly questioning our purpose and striving for expressions that are distinctly our own. We always ask ourselves ‘why this game?’ and ‘why us?’ to ensure everything we make is truly special.
In his letter, Toyama also mentioned that his new game is still very early in development. He explained that the team will be experimenting with lots of different ideas, and many will likely be changed or dropped as they decide on the final concept.
Our whole studio is currently focused on a new game. It’s going to be a challenging process – we’ll be learning as we go, experimenting from the very beginning. But that’s good, because it means we can really get to the heart of the game and let our decisions and the problems we solve directly influence how it turns out.
Joining us at this early stage will be an exceptional opportunity. We’re excited to continue developing this project with your help and look forward to receiving your application.
Toyama announced in July 2025 that he was developing a new game. He mentioned in an interview that while he couldn’t share specifics, the game would fit with Bokeh Game Studio’s approach of exploring diverse concepts.
Toyama shared that they’ve begun development on their next game, but didn’t offer specifics. He also explained that the studio was initially envisioned as a place to explore diverse projects, including ideas from new talent and lighter, more casual games.
We’re giving it our all as a studio to show we can deliver. We’re making progress towards that, but it’s still early days, so we’ll share more information about the new game when we can.
Toyama’s most recent game, Slitterhead, came out on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2024. While it didn’t achieve widespread popularity, he noted it had become a “cult favourite,” and he was ultimately pleased with the final result of the horror game.
Honestly, when I heard him talk about how much longer he could keep going, it made me a little sad. He mentioned his age, which is totally understandable! But he also said he knows it’s time to start letting the next generation take over, which I think is a really smart move. He made it clear the studio still has a lot it wants to achieve, so it’s not like things are ending, just… evolving. It’s exciting and a little bittersweet, if I’m being honest!
