It Took Decades, But Marvel Finally Set Up A Spider-Man & Kingpin Showdown In 2025

Fans are eagerly anticipating a major clash between Spider-Man and Kingpin in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. With shows like Daredevil: Born Again season 2, a Punisher special, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day planned, a showdown between Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) seems increasingly likely. While Kingpin started as a Spider-Man villain in the comics before becoming Daredevil’s greatest foe, the two have never actually battled on screen.

As a big Marvel fan, it’s always bothered me that we’ve seen so many versions of both Spider-Man and Kingpin in movies and TV shows, but they’ve never actually fought! Kingpin first showed up in the comics way back in 1967, and for nearly 60 years, we haven’t seen that rivalry play out on screen. But things are finally changing! The new Daredevil: Born Again series revealed that Wilson Fisk knows about Spider-Man, and it looks like our friendly neighborhood wall-crawler is going to get caught up in Kingpin’s plans to take down vigilantes. I’m really excited to see this finally happen in the MCU’s more grounded, street-level stories!

Kingpin Mentioned Spider-Man in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1

In the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, newly elected New York City Mayor Wilson Fisk addressed the city in the second episode, “Optics,” and publicly dismissed several vigilantes. He specifically stated that New York’s citizens didn’t need someone like the Punisher—a masked vigilante known for using guns—or Daredevil, who fights crime while wearing a devil-like mask. Fisk also made his first mention of Spider-Man, referring to him as “a man who dresses in a spider outfit.”

Kingpin’s mayoral campaign focused on attacking vigilantes, and Spider-Man is now included among those he targets. In the first season finale of Daredevil: Born Again, after Muse’s death and Bullseye’s return, Kingpin imposed martial law and created a special, but corrupt, police force – the Anti-Vigilante Task Force – to enforce his new rules. It appears Spider-Man, along with Daredevil, the Punisher, and Swordsman, is now on Kingpin’s radar.

When Could Spider-Man Battle Kingpin in the MCU?

A complicated legal disagreement between Disney and Sony is creating uncertainty about Spider-Man and Kingpin’s futures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s unclear if Spider-Man can appear in MCU TV series, or if Kingpin can appear in movies. If Marvel Studios gains full control over these characters, it could finally pave the way for the long-awaited showdown between Spider-Man and Kingpin – a battle fans have anticipated for nearly 60 years and would be incredible to see on screen.

The upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, set to premiere in early 2026, will show Wilson Fisk tightening his grip on New York City. With Peter Parker now operating as a low-profile hero after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, he might end up fighting alongside Daredevil. Jessica Jones, reprising her role from the Defenders series, is already confirmed to join the fight, and other heroes could also team up. Seeing Daredevil and Spider-Man finally unite against Kingpin in a potential second season of Born Again would be fantastic, but even if not, there’s a good chance these two will clash again in the future.

Spider-Man will return to theaters in July 2026 in a new film called Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The movie, set in New York City, presents a perfect chance for a showdown between Spider-Man and Kingpin. Expect Kingpin’s plans to cause trouble, potentially leading to Spider-Man clashing with a special task force focused on vigilantes. He may even team up with the Punisher and Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo). Although Kingpin is famous for fighting Daredevil, he actually battled Spider-Man in the comics first, and fans are hoping to see that history reflected in the movie, following a hint from the first season of Born Again.
