Many original shows are leaving Netflix, and it’s not just animated series. Popular animated franchises like Captain Underpants, She-Ra And The Princesses of Power, and Dragons: Rescue Riders have all been cancelled. Sadly, a hugely popular live-action comedy series is also ending its run on the streaming service, and its future is uncertain. Given how much of an impact this show has had, fans may want to binge-watch it while they still can.
As a huge fan of comedy, I was really bummed to hear that Arrested Development is leaving Netflix on March 15th, 2026. Netflix hasn’t said exactly why, but it’s probably just a licensing issue – these things happen. I always thought Arrested Development had a special place on Netflix, especially since the streamer brought the show back for two extra seasons after its original run on Fox. It was great to see the whole Bluth family back together! Sadly, even that close relationship wasn’t enough to keep it around forever, which is a real shame.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Arrested Development
Most people know the story of the Bluth family from the show Arrested Development, which first aired on Fox in 2003. However, many don’t realize who was involved in making it happen. Surprisingly, Anthony and Joe Russo – who later became famous for directing several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including Avengers movies – were among the original producers. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Russo brothers discussed the challenges of bringing this quirky family’s story to the screen.
According to Joe Russo, finding the right actors for the Bluth family was challenging, and the role of Gob proved particularly difficult. Will Arnett joined the cast just a week before filming began. Jason Bateman also required multiple auditions – four times, to be exact – because he’d been in several pilots that didn’t get picked up. At the time, he was considered a risk, and series creator Mitch Hurwitz worried that casting him might bring bad luck.
As a huge fan, I was so excited when the fifth and final season of Arrested Development landed on Netflix. But honestly, it feels like that really was the end. There’s been no talk of the show returning, and it seems like Netflix might have let the rights slip away. Plus, everyone involved is working on other things now, so a Bluth family reunion feels pretty impossible at this point. It’s sad, but it looks like we’ve seen the last of them.
