‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Needs to Say Goodbye to the Weakest Part of the Show

Okay, so as a huge fan of the original Daredevil on Netflix, I really enjoyed the Disney+ revival, Born Again. It’s definitely one of the better things Marvel’s done with streaming. But, let’s be real, it didn’t quite reach the heights of the first three seasons. And honestly, I think people need to remember why it felt a little off. The whole show had to be basically rebuilt after the Hollywood strikes in 2023! They originally planned for 18 episodes, and a lot of that initial vision had to be scrapped. If they can build on what they did get right in Season 1, and remember what made the original so great, Season 2 could be amazing.

As a huge Daredevil fan, I was really excited about the ‘Born Again’ reboot – I heard they were planning an 18-episode season that would basically be a fresh start. But thankfully, they changed course and decided to continue the original show, bringing back a lot of the actors we already loved. The problem is, they’d already filmed some episodes with the reboot idea in mind, so when they switched back, the first season felt a little disjointed. It’s like they ended up with a mix of different ideas, and honestly, the pacing and overall story flow suffered a bit because of it.

So, I’ve been hearing a lot about the behind-the-scenes changes with Daredevil: Born Again, and showrunner Dario Scardapane cleared things up with TVLine. Basically, the first episode and the last two are completely new – a fresh start, if you will. The six episodes originally crafted by Matt Corman and Chris Ord? They weren’t scrapped, but they were heavily reworked. Scardapane said they added new scenes at the beginning and end, and generally tweaked things around. Only a couple of those middle episodes made it through mostly untouched, which is a pretty significant overhaul!

The three episodes released after the show was revamped were definitely the strongest and did the most to advance the plot of Born Again. They also captured the original feel and quality of the Netflix series better than any other episodes.

Jesse Wigutow, an executive producer on the show, recently told Collider that the first season was put together in a somewhat chaotic way. However, he expressed optimism for the upcoming season, saying it will have a much clearer focus and a truly satisfying ending.

I believe Season 2 has a much more unified and focused direction compared to Season 1. While Season 1 wasn’t disjointed, it felt like it was assembled from different pieces. This season benefits from a clear creative vision, thanks to a fantastic showrunner who really knew what they wanted. It’s not flawless, but overall, I think Season 2 is strong and viewers will enjoy it.

Okay, so the latest Daredevil season really hit its stride in the middle. We got a fascinating villain with the artist known as Muse, and I was thrilled to see the introduction of Hector Ayala, the White Tiger. But honestly, one of my favorite moments was seeing Daredevil team up with Ms. Marvel’s dad, Yusuf Khan, to foil a bank robbery. It was a surprisingly fun and effective pairing that showed the show wasn’t afraid to connect to the wider Marvel universe.

As expected, several episodes of Born Again felt disconnected from the main plot, with a few being entirely self-contained and remaining untouched even after revisions. Charlie Cox even admitted he disliked one particular episode during filming, calling it his least favorite of the first season’s nine episodes.

Good news for fans: Season 2 of Born Again is being completely rebuilt with the showrunner from The Punisher at the helm. This should result in a more streamlined and consistently high-quality season, hopefully matching the strong episodes that began and ended the first season.

Why Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Will Be Much Better Than the First

Though the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will have fewer episodes – eight, compared to the original season’s ten – viewers don’t need to be concerned about a rushed ending. Disney+ has already greenlit an exciting third season of the mature-themed series.

As a huge fan of Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the Punisher, I’m thrilled to hear he’s getting his own Disney+ special in 2026! Apparently, it’ll tie directly into both Season 2 of his old show and his upcoming appearance in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. Sounds like Frank Castle is going to be a pretty big player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, which I can’t wait to see!

I’m so excited for Season 2 of Born Again! From what I’ve heard, everything is really ramping up – the story is moving faster, we’ll see even more ties to the original Netflix show, and the production quality is going to be fantastic. Plus, the best news? Krysten Ritter is coming back as Jessica Jones! Another Defender joining the mix is exactly what this series needs.

In a conversation with Colldier, Jesse Wigutow hinted at a major plotline in Season 2, suggesting it will build to a climax in the finale and ultimately reveal the core of the series.

Looking back on the season, especially as we finish editing and prepare for Season 3, I’m struck by how expansive the story became. The finale really brought everything back to the core themes and what was most important.

The executive producer believes the core of what viewers enjoy about Born Again is the rivalry between Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, culminating in a truly rewarding final confrontation.

What truly matters to audiences is the connection between these two characters – their intense conflict, their deep-seated hatred, and their surprising dependence on each other. We stripped away everything else to focus on their direct confrontation, culminating in what I believe is a very rewarding climax.

With the return of Daredevil and the potential for other heroes from The Defenders to join in, some viewers might worry about the show’s pace. However, it appears fans can rest assured that the central conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk will continue to be a major focus, not just in the upcoming season, but likely for many seasons to come with Born Again.
