The Traitors boss urges viewers to look out for clues in opening episode amid introduction of the Secret Traitor

The popular show, The Traitors, came back with a bang last night (January 1st), delivering on its promise of plenty of surprises and unexpected moments in its new season.

At the start of the show, Claudia Winkleman announced that a Secret Traitor had been selected, and then explained what that role involves.

As of now, nobody knows who the secret Traitor is – not even the other Traitors in the castle! The Traitor knows everyone’s identity and each night will give the other Traitors a list of people they must consider for elimination.

As a huge fan of ‘The Traitors,’ I’m already deep into trying to figure out who the hidden traitor is! And it’s not just us contestants; the show’s creators want viewers at home to join the detective work too. They’ve cleverly sprinkled clues throughout the very first episode, so everyone has a chance to play along and try to unmask them.

As always, each player will enter the interview room and share their thoughts on the day with a camera. Those who are secretly Traitors will confirm this to the camera, and the same goes for the Faithful players – essentially, the Traitor is openly among the group, pretending to be one of the Faithful.

Mike Cotton, from Studio Lambert, explained that the player secretly assigned as the traitor in the game isn’t pretending during their interview segments – we may have actually seen them in action during the episode.

When asked about revealing the Secret Traitor, Cotton playfully responded that viewers would simply have to keep watching to find out.

Claudia explained on the show that they’ll keep narrowing down the contestants. She said the current group will remain until the Traitors regain control, but viewers will have to keep watching to find out how that happens.

The plot thickens!

If you’re like me and completely hooked on The Traitors, good news! Season 4 kicks off Friday, January 2nd at 8pm on BBC One – and you can also stream it on iPlayer. If you need to catch up, or are just discovering this brilliantly sneaky show, the first three seasons are all available to watch on iPlayer right now. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
