Windows 11 surges among PC gamers on Steam as Linux stalls — the open-source OS mildly loses momentum after a brief uptick

Steam’s latest survey from December 2025 is available now. The November 2025 survey showed a slight increase in Linux usage, leading some to believe this positive trend would continue.

Linux adoption has recently plateaued, even decreasing slightly – by just 0.01

The recent increase in users is probably due to people switching from Windows 10, which is no longer supported, and possibly from new devices like the Xbox Ally and other handheld Windows PCs. The information shows that while Linux isn’t gaining users, Windows 11 is currently where most new users are going.
