Sitcoms are making a comeback on network television! While we might not see ratings like those of Friends or Seinfeld again, shows like Abbott Elementary have sparked a new wave of funny series. Recent standouts include Ghosts, St. Denis Medical, and a popular Fox comedy currently in its fourth season that recently found a wider audience on Netflix.
Netflix has added the first two seasons of the comedy series Animal Control, featuring Joel McHale (from Community), to its streaming library. Though it wasn’t announced in their recent updates, you can now watch the show, and Season 3 is coming soon. Netflix hasn’t revealed a release date for the new season yet, but it’s been indicated on the show’s page that it’s in development.
I’m really enjoying the new season of Animal Control – Season 4 just started airing on Fox! They’re going to keep releasing episodes throughout January. Knowing how Netflix likes to pick up shows from other networks, I wouldn’t be shocked if Season 4 landed on Netflix before Season 5 starts.
What Is Animal Control on Netflix?
Animal Control is a comedy series following a quirky team of animal control workers in Seattle as they navigate both their wild jobs and complicated personal lives. The show stars Joel McHale as Frank Shaw, a former police officer who lost his job after exposing corruption within his department and ended up working in animal control.
I’ve been really enjoying Animal Control! Veila Lovell is fantastic as Emily Price, the director of Animal Control – she’s pretty much Frank’s opposite in every way, which makes for great comedy. The show has a solid main cast with Michael Rowland, Ravi V. Patel, and Grace Palmer, but they’ve also brought in some really funny guest stars. I was thrilled to see comedy veterans like Sarah Chalke, Thomas Lennon, and Larry Joe Campbell, and it was a fun surprise to see Ken Jeong, Joel McHale’s friend and Community co-star, pop up too!
The comedy series Animal Control comes from a talented team: Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg, and Dan Sterling. All three have impressive comedy writing credentials. Fisher co-wrote popular films like Wedding Crashers and We’re the Millers, and also contributed to the TV show Married… with Children. Greenberg’s credits include Frasier and the animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Sterling has written for well-known comedies such as South Park, King of the Hill, and The Office.
