Dragon Quest 12 Could Get New Details as “Various Announcements” Teased for Series’ 40th Anniversary

Many beloved video game franchises, including Pokémon, Sonic the Hedgehog, Resident Evil, and Dragon Quest, are celebrating milestone anniversaries this year. Along with the upcoming release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, the official Dragon Quest Twitter account has hinted at more exciting news and announcements to come.

So, the creator, Yuji Horii, just hinted on Twitter that they’ve got a ton of announcements coming this year – which is awesome! And Yosuke Saito, one of the producers, basically promised a big celebration. He even teased something cool for the ninth anniversary of NieR: Automata in an interview. Looks like it’s going to be a good year for fans!

There’s a lot of excitement building, and most people expect to hear news about Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, the next major game in the Dragon Quest series. It was first announced in 2021 during a live stream celebrating the series’ 35th anniversary, but reports suggest it was delayed, which led to a change in leadership with Yu Miyake leaving his position as producer.

Last year, Horii promised fans that a sequel was still being worked on and that they’d share updates gradually. However, beyond mentioning potential compatibility with the next Nintendo Switch, there hasn’t been any new information released.

Okay, so mark your calendars! Dragon Quest Day is coming up on May 27th, and they’ll probably announce a livestream soon with all the details. But even bigger news for me? Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is dropping on February 5th! It’s coming to pretty much everything – Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, Switch, and the new Nintendo Switch 2. They’re really polishing up the original game to make it smoother, but they’ve also added a completely new ending, which I’m super excited about. You can find all the info here if you want to check it out.
