PlayStation Exclusive RPG Removed From PS Store for Some PSN Users

A game previously available only on PlayStation is being removed from the PlayStation Store for some players, about 10 years after it first launched in 2015. This game was never released on PC, Nintendo, or Xbox, making it a true PlayStation exclusive, even though Sony didn’t create it. Some PlayStation Network users have already lost access to the PS4 version, and the PlayStation Vita version will be removed within the next 48 hours, on January 5th. Currently, not all PlayStation Network users are affected.

The PlayStation game Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky first launched in December 2015, and it’s being removed from digital stores around its 10-year anniversary – likely because of expiring licensing or publishing agreements. The game doesn’t have any online features, so even after it’s removed, you’ll still be able to play it if you’ve already purchased it. Originally released only in Japan in 2015, it came to North America and Europe in October 2016. Currently, it’s still available in the North American and European PlayStation Stores, but that will probably change later this year. This removal affects both the main game and any downloadable content.

A Forgotten Single-Player RPG

Developed by Spike Chunsoft and Tri-Ace and published by Aksys Games, Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky is a role-playing game that some fans see as a follow-up to Valkyrie Profile. While it received a middling score of 69 on Metacritic and didn’t become a major commercial success, the 50-hour RPG is still worth picking up for those interested, especially since it may not be available for long on PSN.

Why Has the PlayStation Exclusive Been Delisted

Spike Chunsoft, Tri-Ace, and Aksys Games haven’t explained why they’re removing the RPG from PlayStation stores, but Spike Chunsoft did issue a short statement apologizing for the game’s delisting.

Spike Chunsoft announced the removal of their games from the PlayStation Store and expressed their sincere thanks to players for their understanding.
