Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday X-Men Trailer Finally Fixes Fox’s Biggest Wolverine Problem

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve noticed they’re being really strategic with how they’re promoting Avengers: Doomsday. It’s clear they know things haven’t been great with the MCU lately. Phases 4 and 5 definitely hurt the franchise’s reputation, and it feels like they’re trying to recapture the magic of the earlier films. I’m so excited that the Russo brothers are directing again, and even more thrilled that they’ve brought back Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.! Honestly, getting the original team back together feels like the best way to make Doomsday a real contender, especially with so many other superhero movies and shows coming out now.

Simply relying on popular Marvel Cinematic Universe characters isn’t sufficient. The upcoming films Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude the Multiverse Saga, which has already included many surprising character cameos. Hugh Jackman is reprising his role as Logan after Deadpool & Wolverine, and the MCU seems to be giving him a better storyline than some of its original characters. The teaser for Doomsday featuring the X-Men even addresses a long-standing issue with Wolverine that troubled the previous films from Fox.

The MCU Is Taking the Right Approach With Wolverine

The newest trailer for Doomsday is now showing in cinemas, and it focuses on the X-Men. Magneto provides the voiceover, explaining that everyone eventually faces death. The trailer features a heartfelt scene between Magneto and Professor X, followed by Cyclops using his optic blast in battle. It then displays the Doomsday logo and a countdown to the film’s release. Surprisingly, the trailer doesn’t show Wolverine’s face, which is unusual for an X-Men movie.

With Wolverine already appearing alongside Deadpool in the MCU, it’s clear the studio is fine with not featuring him prominently in the marketing for the upcoming X-Men film. This is actually a positive thing, as Hugh Jackman’s Logan tended to dominate previous Fox movies, appearing in almost every project and becoming the team’s unofficial leader. Jackman is a talented actor and deserves his success, but his popularity often overshadowed the other X-Men. It will be refreshing to see his former co-stars get a chance to shine, and one of them might even become a breakout star.

Wolverine’s Absence in Doomsday Will Allow Another Mutant to Shine

It genuinely breaks my heart to say this, but Cyclops’ scene in the Doomsday trailer – especially seeing him in a suit that’s straight out of the comics – is honestly one of his best live-action moments yet. It’s frustrating because the original X-Men films never really gave him a chance to shine as his own person. He was always tied to Jean Grey, and they never let him have his own story. It got so bad that in The Last Stand, Scott doesn’t even get to do anything – he just dies while looking for Jean, who everyone thinks died at the end of X2. It’s a real shame!

The new Doomsday trailer suggests Cyclops is finally free from his past struggles and ready to take a leading role in the X-Men, similar to Captain America. Fans hope the Marvel Cinematic Universe captures this version of the character when they cast their own Cyclops. While some conflict with Wolverine is likely, the trailer implies it won’t be the central theme of the X-Men’s story going forward.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
