The fantasy rom-com Eternality, starring Callum Turner and Elizabeth Olsen, is proving popular on streaming platforms. Elizabeth Olsen plays Joan, a woman facing a unique choice after death: spend eternity with her first love, Luke (Turner), a soldier who died in the Korean War, or with her second husband, Larry (Miles Teller), whom she was married to for 65 years.
Currently, the movie Eternity is number seven on Prime Video’s list of most-purchased films. It’s following Wicked: For Good, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Good Fortune, Nuremberg, Sarah’s Oil, and One Battle After Another, but it’s more popular than Black Phone 2, Avatar: The Way of Water, and The Long Walk.

Although the central story of Eternity revolves around a love triangle between Joan, Luke, and Larry, the film also dedicates significant time to Anna, played by Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Anna acts as Larry’s guide in the afterlife, helping him adjust and plan his eternal future, and she also has her own personal story unfold throughout the movie.
Anna is tasked with explaining what happens after death to Larry and to all the newly arrived spirits at a place called the Junction. At the Junction, different versions of the afterlife – each with its own unique style – are presented as options. Once someone chooses their afterlife, the decision is final. Trying to leave results in a severe punishment: being banished to the Void.
Elizabeth Olsen is continuing a run of critically acclaimed projects following her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, she’s starred in Love & Death, His Three Daughters, The Assessment, and Eternity, and provided the voice for Wanda Maximoff in Marvel Zombies. All of these films and shows have received positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
While not as intense as films like ‘Love & Death,’ ‘His Three Daughters,’ ‘The Assessment,’ or ‘Marvel Zombies,’ the movie ‘Eternity’ still explores meaningful themes of love, regret, and dealing with difficult experiences. It manages to do this while also being funny and lighthearted, and this combination seems to be connecting with audiences watching on Prime Video, as it’s currently among the top 10 most-watched films.
