Warwick Davis has talked about how excited he is to return to the world of Harry Potter, reprising his role as Professor Flitwick in the new HBO series. The show, which will have eight episodes, is a big-budget adaptation of the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and arrives 26 years after the original movie. If the series is a hit, HBO plans to adapt all seven books – Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows – for television.
Warwick Davis, known for his role as Griphook in the Harry Potter films, recently discussed a new project with Dom Joly on Capital FM. The project has faced a lot of criticism since it was announced in 2023. Davis noted that filming it at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford feels a little unusual.
I’m currently working on the project, and while I can’t share many details, we’re reimagining those classic stories with a greater level of depth and detail than previous adaptations. We’re staying very true to the original book, so while the story is familiar, we’re experiencing similar moments on set. It’s a strange feeling being back at Leavesden Studios – that’s where we filmed the original movies.
George Weasley Actor Recalls Foul-Smelling ‘Harry Potter’ Set

Warner Bros. Pictures
Oliver Phelps, who played George Weasley in the Harry Potter films, recently shared that the iconic Great Hall set didn’t actually smell magical during filming. He told People magazine that when the set was full of people, it had a lot of different smells. Phelps was discussing this while promoting season two of the Food Network show, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking.
Even today, when I see those scenes, I can almost smell the food they were cooking – though it wasn’t always pleasant! They needed lots of turkeys and other dishes to make everything look good for the feasts. But honestly, when I think back, I mostly remember a really bad smell, like smelly socks.
I recently caught up with Oliver Phelps, one half of the iconic twin duo from the Harry Potter films, and he shared his thoughts on HBO’s upcoming series. He told me he’s hoping whoever takes on the roles of Fred and George Weasley will bring their own unique spin to the characters, but with respect for what James and I established. He wants them to make the roles their own, without feeling like they’re trying to copy us, which I think is a really classy attitude.
We’ll likely always be remembered for playing Fred and George, no matter what happens with the TV series – and honestly, we don’t know much more about it than anyone else does. People will probably always see us as those characters to some extent. We’re excited for the actors who take on the roles and wish them all the best, but we secretly hope they don’t outshine us!
