Will there be a Waiting for the Out season 2?

*Warning – contains spoilers for all six episodes of Waiting for the Out season 1*

You can now watch all six episodes of the new BBC drama, Waiting for the Out, on BBC iPlayer. The show follows Dan, a philosophy teacher, as he begins teaching classes to prisoners.

While investigating this case, I started to realize Dan was really battling his own demons too. It turns out his brother, dad, and uncle have all done time, and he’s become completely consumed by the fear that he’s destined to end up in prison as well. It’s heartbreaking to watch him spiral, constantly worrying about following in their footsteps.

This drama is inspired by Andy West’s book, ‘The Life Inside,’ and features Josh Finan, Stephen Wight, Phil Daniels, and Samantha Spiro. After finishing the six episodes, viewers are wondering if the show will be renewed for another season.

Will there be a Waiting for the Out season 2?

It’s still uncertain if Waiting for the Out will be renewed for another season. The first season just came out, so its future hasn’t been decided yet.

Since the show is inspired by Andy West’s book, and much of the book’s story has already been told, many viewers think this six-episode season will be the only one.

Kelly recently spoke with an executive producer about the possibility of a second season. They originally discussed future series when the show was first being developed, but everyone has been so busy finishing the current season that no one has formally explored the idea yet.

I really enjoyed working on the project and would be thrilled to do it again. If the audience is interested and the key people – Andy and Josh – are on board, I’d love to revisit those characters. I especially connected with them and feel there are many more stories to tell, and working with the cast was a wonderful experience.

When asked if he’d need to create new storylines beyond what’s in the book, Kelly explained that it contains a lot of deeper, philosophical ideas and plenty of additional material. He feels they’ve pretty much covered Andy’s story for now, though they could always explore it further or talk to Andy for more details if needed.

That’s a tricky question. We’d need to work together to figure out what to focus on next, as there isn’t an obvious choice. However, the book also has many prison scenes we haven’t explored yet – there’s a lot of material there.

We’ll need to wait for more information about what happens next with the series. We’ll update this page as soon as we have any news.

When would a potential Waiting for the Out season 2 be released?

A release date for a possible second season of Waiting for the Out is currently unknown, as the show hasn’t been officially renewed yet.

If a second season is confirmed soon, it could be ready in about a year. Because the show doesn’t need extensive special effects or famous actors, production could move fairly quickly.

Based on current estimates, we anticipate that season 2 of Waiting for the Out will likely be released on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the first half of 2027, but this is just an educated guess at this time.

Who would return to star in a potential Waiting for the Out season 2?

Fans are eager to find out if ‘The Out’ will be back for a second season. If it is, we can expect Josh Finan to reprise his role as Dan, and it’s likely that Stephen Wight, Phil Daniels, Samantha Spiro, and Sian Reese-Williams will also return as his family.

It’s likely we’ll see some of the actors who played prisoners return, since Kelly really enjoyed writing those characters. However, Josef Altin, who played Greg, probably won’t be back – his character died by suicide in the series finale.

It’s unclear if Gerard Kearns will return as Dan’s father. He haunted Dan with visions throughout the first season, but his influence appeared to weaken by the end, so he might not have as big a role this time around.

Here’s a fun, early guess at which actors and characters might be back for season 2 of Waiting for the Out. Keep in mind this is just speculation!

  • Josh Finan as Dan
  • Gerard Kearns as Dad
  • Stephen Wight as Lee
  • Phil Daniels as Frank
  • Samantha Spiro as Mum
  • Sian Reese-Williams as Laura
  • Alex Ferns as Keith
  • Francis Lovehall as Dris
  • Steven Meo as Macca
  • Ric Renton as Wallace
  • Tom Moutchi as Junior
  • Nima Taleghani as Malik
  • Sule Rimi as Samson
  • Charlie Rix as Zach
  • Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo as Officer Stephens
