Sophie Turner recently talked about potentially returning to the world of Game of Thrones. She discussed whether she’d be interested in playing Sansa Stark again in any future sequels, and what it would take to convince her to reprise the role, considering her character’s journey.
Sophie Turner discusses her return prospects for a Game of Thrones spin-off
Sophie Turner jokingly said she’d need a compelling offer to return to the role. While she thinks revisiting the character could be fantastic, she also acknowledged it might be difficult to recapture the original magic. Ultimately, she’d need to read a script to decide if a return would work.
Sophie Turner expressed satisfaction with how her character, Sansa Stark, concluded her storyline in Game of Thrones. She believes Sansa received a fitting ending, unlike many other characters, and doesn’t think she’d be interested in revisiting that part of the story.
In a 2019 interview, Sophie Turner said she was ready to move on from her role as Sansa Stark, stating she would likely decline any potential spinoff offers. She believed Sansa had reached her strongest point and that continuing the character’s story would diminish her arc. Turner also shared that playing Sansa was a particularly empowering experience for her as an actress.
George R.R. Martin has confirmed that while most of the planned Game of Thrones spin-offs take place before the events of the original series, some will continue the story forward. Currently, HBO is producing ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ with other animated and live-action projects also in the works. A planned sequel series centered around Jon Snow was put on hold, but HBO hasn’t ruled out revisiting the idea in the future.
HBO has not confirmed any official sequel featuring Sansa.
