Back in January 2019, I, along with my wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Scott, an accomplished author and philanthropist, decided to part ways. He was a friendly and sociable individual, known for his booming laugh (described as “somewhere between a mating elephant seal and a power tool,” according to Stone), but also prone to the volatile temperament often linked with Jobs – he could be amicable one moment and critical enough to reduce someone’s self-esteem the next.

As a lifestyle expert, I find it fascinating to delve into the stories behind iconic brand names, and Amazon is no exception. Just like the vast, powerful river, Jeff Bezos envisioned his company to be mighty in its scope and influence. Interestingly, he strategically chose a name starting with ‘A’ to ensure it would proudly sit atop any alphabetical company listing, symbolizing its prominence from day one.

In 2004, Bezos explained to Fast Company that people often say your life flashes before your eyes in such situations. His specific accident unfolded gradually, allowing him a brief moment to ponder the events taking place.

Sanchez joked about his new habit as he declared, “I find myself saying things like, ‘Hold it right there. Slowing down now. Yes, you’re doing great.'” He’s quite attentive to my requests.

It’s hardly unexpected given that Bezos is known for approaching challenges with nothing short of his full commitment.

In his commencement address to Princeton’s Class of 2010, Bezos posed this question: “Are you going to shield your heart from potential rejection, or are you going to take action when love comes knocking? Or perhaps, will you choose safety, or will you exhibit a touch of daring and adventurous spirit?

And it all started with a bunch of books.

In New York, Jeff Bezos and Scott first crossed paths while both were employed at a Wall Street hedge fund. As he recognized the potential of internet business, Bezos began exploring opportunities and decided to establish an online bookstore. In a 1997 letter to shareholders, Bezos expressed that the work environment is challenging, yet he emphasized that it’s essential work because we are constructing something significant, something that truly matters to our customers, and something that future generations will be proud of when we tell them about it.

Speaking to the Princeton Class of 2010, he posed these questions: “When faced with adversity, do you opt out or persist relentlessly? Are you a pessimist, or someone who constructs solutions? Do you exploit others for gain, or do you choose kindness?

Eric Schmidt, who at the time held the position of executive chairman for Google (and was also an Amazon Prime member), shared with Stone that he viewed Amazon as the tale of an exceptional founder who was instrumental in shaping its direction.
