The unexpected disappearance of the game known as “Marvel Snap” from the App Store and its closure in the U.S. might leave you puzzled. While “Marvel Rivals” currently rules the roost in Marvel-themed video games, “Marvel Snap” is another highly popular online game that focuses on iconic superheroes from around the world. This digital card game allows players to employ their favorite heroes and villains in battles against other players, each with their own collection of Marvel characters. Just like any other comparable card game, “Marvel Snap” offers quick-paced entertainment, boasting swift matches to keep players hooked.
One of the most widely played mobile games is “Marvel Snap”, which can also be enjoyed on PC platforms such as Steam. However, on January 18th, an unexpected event occurred that left many fans disappointed – “Marvel Snap” was no longer accessible to play. As of now, it’s still available on Steam, but it’s likely to disappear soon from the App Stores in the United States. Interestingly, even if you acquire “Marvel Snap” on Steam at this moment, you won’t be able to play it. The removal wasn’t announced beforehand and has left fans across the US taken aback. Upon launching the game, a message is displayed to players.
As a fellow Marvel enthusiast, I regret to inform you that a law prohibiting the use of ‘Marvel Snap’ has been enacted within the United States. This temporary setback is disheartening, but please know that we’re tirelessly working to bring back our service in the U.S. So, stay tuned for updates and let’s keep the Marvel magic alive!
Why Is Marvel Snap Banned?
The ban on the Marvel Snap game is due to the fact that its developer, Nuverse, belongs to ByteDance, which also owns TikTok. You might recall that TikTok was prohibited in the U.S. over national security issues. Due to these concerns, the U.S. government demanded that ByteDance sell off its American assets or face closure. Unfortunately, ByteDance did not comply, leading to the temporary shutdown of TikTok, Marvel Snap, and a few other apps in the U.S. However, it’s anticipated that this situation may resolve itself as early as next week.
TikTok is collaborating with President-elect Donald Trump to find a way to lift the app’s ban. Inauguration day for Trump is on Monday, January 20th, and it’s anticipated that he will start working towards an extension for ByteDance to avoid a ban as soon as possible after taking office.
