Over two decades have passed since Ubisoft first released “Beyond Good & Evil,” and fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel since the original’s cliffhanger ending. However, the development process for “Beyond Good and Evil 2” has faced numerous challenges in recent years. But it appears that things are finally looking up, as per a report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who states that the game is “now making good progress.” The positive news is tempered by the fact that the game is still behind schedule compared to many of Ubisoft’s other projects.
What’s the projected timeline for the release of Beyond Good and Evil 2? It’s challenging to provide an exact date, but based on Ubisoft games Henderson mentioned, it appears that the game might not be available until 2027 at the earliest. That’s quite a ways off, but if the game does indeed launch in 2027, it will truly be remarkable considering all the setbacks since its initial announcement in 2008.
Ever since its initial announcement, the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 has faced numerous challenges. By 2022, this sequel had broken the record for the longest development time in video game history, surpassing the previous holder, Duke Nukem Forever. For many fans of the original game, the years have been relatively barren of good news, but Ubisoft did offer a silver lining with the release of the Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition last year. This edition contained elements that seemed to hint at the setup for the new game, even though it was not the full sequel fans were eagerly awaiting. However, this gesture did seem to indicate that things might finally be looking up for the title.
Initially, “Beyond Good & Evil” was unveiled in the year 2003 across platforms like PC, GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2. This game was a significant triumph for Ubisoft as it received widespread acclaim for its storyline, visuals, and game mechanics. Regrettably, the game faced difficulties in attracting a large audience due to several factors such as Ubisoft’s marketing team focusing more on “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” which was launched only weeks prior. Over time, however, it managed to garner a dedicated fanbase, giving Ubisoft the confidence to revive the franchise.
After such a long time, it appears that the fate of Beyond Good and Evil 2 may be changing for the better. Although we’re likely still over two years away from its launch, if the game manages to recreate the charm that initially drew players to the original, the wait could very well prove to be worthwhile. Fingers crossed that Ubisoft will provide updates as the release date approaches.
