Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer are moving forward with their divorce.
According to court records obtained by TopMob News, the star of Trainwreck filed for separation from her husband of seven years on January 6th.
Amy’s lawyer filed for a divorce that both she and her ex-husband agree on. They have a 6-year-old son named Gene, and they’ve reached an agreement on how to divide their money, possessions, and care for their child.
The paperwork was submitted just under a month after Amy, 44, and Chris, 45, announced they had decided to divorce.
In a statement posted to Instagram on December 12th, she shared that she and her partner love each other deeply and plan to prioritize raising their son.
The comedian also shut down speculation of what went wrong.
“Not because I dropped some lbs,” she quipped of her recent weight loss, “and not because he’s a hot James Beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail.”
Amy added, “Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”
Since then, the Inside Amy Schumer alum has been leaning on the rest of her family.
She explained in an Instagram video on December 21st that her family is often funniest when they’re going through the toughest times. She said they always seem to find a way to laugh the most when things are at their worst.
Amy mentioned her strong network of supportive women again on Instagram, posting a quote from Hannah Rosenberg that read, “My life is filled with the souls of women I love.”

The post celebrated the women who show up for you in both good times and bad, and who lift you up when you’re being hard on yourself. It encouraged readers to cherish those relationships, suggesting that while the idea of a ‘soulmate’ is nice, these real, supportive connections are what truly matter and bring fulfillment.
Amy recently gave fans a glimpse into her personal life, sharing a photo of her son, Gene, playing with toys while she relaxed on a bed.
She playfully wrote on Instagram, “Winter break, you’ve officially defeated us!” and jokingly pleaded, “Please, let’s get back to school!”

Amy Schumer shared on Instagram in February 2022 that being a mom to her son, Gene, is both incredibly joyful and constantly filled with worry and a sense of helplessness. She described feeling emotionally exposed and said it’s a feeling she doesn’t think she’ll ever adjust to, noting that it’s harder to cope with those feelings now that she’s older. She jokingly asked for help, describing the experience as being both in love and terrified.

The star took her son on a holiday walk in 2019.

“Happy Pride babies!!!” the comedian wrote on the day of the NYC LGBT Pride Parade in 2019.

In 2019, Amy posted a clear picture of Gene on Instagram, captioning it with a sweet description of his personality. She wrote that he loves exploring, giggles at his black and white butterfly toy, and enjoys both naps and letting out a good cry when he needs to. She also playfully mentioned his regular bowel movements.

The happy parents matched with their son and dog in 2019.

The Trainwreck star enjoyed some snuggles with her baby boy on her 38th birthday in 2019.

Amy shared a cozy 2019 photo of herself in bed with Gene and her husband at the time, Chris, and simply wrote, “I recommend this.”

The actress and Chris gave Gene his first bath when he was almost 3 weeks old in 2019.

Just two weeks after giving birth to Gene, Amy posted a photo of herself pumping breast milk and responded to criticism on Instagram, saying she was sending love to those who criticized her for performing stand-up comedy the night before.

Amy shared a photo of herself with two breast pumps and jokingly asked, “What are we doing tonight?” using the hashtags #schumerpump and #ootd (outfit of the day).

In 2019, on Mother’s Day, Amy Schumer shared a candid and honest look at the less glamorous side of childbirth.

Shortly after giving birth to her son in 2019, Amy shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. She praised women, calling them incredibly strong and capable of amazing things, while also acknowledging men. She also expressed gratitude for the support she received from a doula during her pregnancy and childbirth.
She shared that she stayed active during her pregnancy, doing Pilates and going for walks, but also struggled with severe morning sickness – hyperemesis – which made her feel sick almost every day. She emphasized how difficult it was, but also how quickly it disappeared after giving birth, just as everyone told her it would. She expressed immense gratitude to her friends – some she’d known for 30 years – who offered support and encouragement, and to all the women who offered advice and strength along the way, especially her family. She acknowledged they were right – it was worth it, and she felt incredibly supported by their collective strength.

After giving birth to her son on May 5, 2019, Amy wrote on Instagram, “New kid, who dis?”

Amy and Chris jokingly called their newborn son their “royal baby.” This was especially amusing because he arrived just hours before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the birth of their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
