Palworld Developer Will Publish Next Game by Tales of Kenzera: Zau Developer

As an enthusiastic admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the talented minds behind Palworld, Pocketpair Studio, have taken a significant step forward in their journey! They’ve launched a publishing division within their business. To mark this exciting beginning, they announced on the social media platform X that they will be publishing the next masterpiece from Tales of Kenzera: Zau developer, Surgent Studios. I can hardly wait to see what magic these studios weave together!

Pocketpair Publishing is thrilled to announce that our debut project will be backing a fresh horror game from @surgentstudios! Surgent Studios stands out with their unique style, and we’re eager to fully support them in this endeavor.

In addition to revealing their upcoming title, the company has hinted that it will be a terrifying gaming experience. In response to PocketPair’s post, Surgent Studios simply posted “FRIENDS”.

Surgent Studios was a business launched by Abubakar Salim, who had previously lent his voice to the main character Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins. The studio’s debut significant production was Tales of Kenzera: Zau, which hit the shelves as far back as March 2024.

Salim mentioned that they’ve spotted a pattern within the entertainment world, and thanks to Pocketpair, they’re creating a horror game based on it. Notably, both Surgent and Pocketpair are known for taking chances. This game will be brief yet bizarre, and we believe players will find our narrative intriguing.

Although we’re continuing to discuss potential future stories within the Tales of Kenzera universe, this new work will stand alone as a significant point along our creative journey, bridging the gap between our past and upcoming projects.

The business unveiled that they were in the process of creating a fresh game, known internally as Project Uso. Salim provided scant information about this game, but it’s known to be a Role Playing Game (RPG) with an isometric viewpoint. It will also incorporate action RPG-style combat, and its overall ambiance can be characterized as afro-gothic.

The game titled “Project Uso” is noted as having a rawer and edgier feel compared to “Tales of Kenzera: Zau,” even though they are set in the same universe. During its unveiling, it was mentioned that the studio was seeking a financial collaborator, and although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, it’s possible that Pocketpair might be the publisher for “Project Uso.

Additionally, it’s important to mention that “Project Uso” was not initially marketed as a horror game. This upcoming title is intended to be a separate production, unrelated to the universe of “Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

Salim added that as Project Uso progresses, the studio intends to experiment with constructing a unique RPG gameplay mechanism because several team members are enthusiasts of pen-and-paper RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons. Consequently, Project Uso will incorporate the Crucible system, which emphasizes player participation in dice rolls that influence their actions.

The game titled “Tales of Kenzera: Zau” can be played on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Its narrative centers around the protagonist attempting to overthrow the God of Death in an effort to alter the current state of affairs. Upon release, it received favorable reviews from critics. Unfortunately, the sales figures for the game have yet to be disclosed. In a related development, Surgent Studios recently underwent a wave of layoffs that affected more than a dozen of its staff members.
