Disney is planning more live-action remakes, and after Moana, they’re moving forward with a new version of Tangled. They’ve already cast the actors who will play Rapunzel and Flynn, and now they’ve found someone to play another key character – a popular actor known for their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now that the leads are cast, Disney is focusing on who will play the villain, Mother Gothel. According to Deadline, Kathryn Hahn, a popular fan choice known for her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is in talks to take on the role.
If the deal is finalized, Hahn will star alongside Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn. Scarlett Johansson was originally considered for the role of Mother Gothel, and news of that casting came out early, but she had to drop out due to other commitments. Fans quickly started suggesting Hahn for the part, and now it’s official!
What’s Next For Disney’s Live-Action Adaptations?

Disney’s live-action remakes had a mixed 2023, with Lilo & Stitch performing very well, but Snow White underperforming at the box office. This year, they’re hoping for another big success with the live-action version of Moana, especially since Moana 2 recently surpassed a billion dollars in ticket sales. If there’s one remake that looks promising, it’s Moana, but only time will tell if it lives up to expectations.
Following the success of Moana, a sequel to Lilo & Stitch has been approved, though it will take some time to reach theaters. Development on Tangled is also picking up speed, but like the Lilo & Stitch sequel, it will be a while before filming begins and the movie is released.
Several previously announced live-action films haven’t had recent news, such as Hercules, The Aristocats, and Robin Hood. Rumors also suggest that Disney is developing live-action versions of The Jungle Book 2, Aladdin 2, a Tinkerbell movie (Tink), The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Sword in the Stone.
Tangled currently has no release date.
