When Nintendo announced the Switch 2, they also revealed a bunch of classic GameCube games would be added to the Nintendo Switch Online service – specifically for the new console. They promised a great lineup of retro titles, but didn’t say when they’d be available, leaving fans eager to play. Now, another one of those highly anticipated games has finally been released on Nintendo Switch Online.
Starting January 9th, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can now play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, a classic Japanese role-playing game originally released in 2005. It’s available exclusively as part of the Nintendo GameCube Classics library on Nintendo Switch. With a new Fire Emblem game coming to Switch later this year, adding this beloved older title feels like great timing for fans.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Now Available for Nintendo Switch Online

Path of Radiance is the ninth main game in the Fire Emblem series. Released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005, it was a landmark title as the first in the franchise to use 3D graphics. Interestingly, it was the only Fire Emblem game ever released for the GameCube, with other games appearing on Nintendo’s handheld systems. Several of these handheld titles, like Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (originally for Game Boy Advance), are now available through Nintendo Switch Online.
It’s a great idea to release Path of Radiance in 2026. Fans are really excited for the new Fire Emblem game, Fortune’s Wave, which will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. While we don’t have a specific release date yet, having Path of Radiance to play on the Switch 2 will give fans something to enjoy while they wait.

If you’re looking to get reacquainted with the Fire Emblem series before the newest game comes out, Path of Radiance is a great choice. It was highly praised when it launched, and remains a classic worth playing. This turn-based RPG features a compelling story, memorable characters, and diverse gameplay. Path of Radiance was a turning point for the series, introducing features like 3D graphics and voice acting that many modern Fire Emblem fans will recognize.
You can now play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, which costs $49.99 annually. Classic GameCube games are only available on the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo previously showed off several titles, and we’re still expecting Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Super Mario Sunshine to be released. While Nintendo hasn’t announced specific dates, these games are expected to become available in the near future.
