Over the past year, Xbox has shifted away from making games only available on their consoles. Despite this change, several well-received Xbox games haven’t yet been released on other platforms. One of these is Avowed, a highly anticipated RPG from Obsidian Entertainment that was originally exclusive to Xbox and PC. Some critics even compared it to the popular game Skyrim. Now, Obsidian has announced that Avowed will be coming to PlayStation 5, and it’s happening sooner than many expected.
During a presentation on January 8th, the developers showed off a large update for their 2025 RPG. They also quickly announced that Avowed will be coming to PlayStation 5 on February 17th. This release will happen a year after the game initially launched on Xbox and PC, and will be accompanied by a significant anniversary update.
Avowed Hits PS5 Alongside Massive Anniversary Update

Despite being nominated for Best RPG at the 2025 Game Awards, Avowed received somewhat mixed reactions. Many, including our reviewers, praised it as a spiritual successor to Skyrim. However, some players found the story and characters less compelling than other games from Obsidian. Since its release, the developers have released several updates to fix issues and incorporate player feedback. Even with these mixed opinions, Avowed is likely already on the radar of RPG fans, and a new anniversary update is about to make it even better.
To mark its one-year anniversary, the RPG Avowed is now available on PS5! This gives PlayStation 5 players like us a chance to experience the game and see if it lives up to its Best RPG nomination. The launch also comes with a big new update that adds several exciting features.
On February 17th, Avowed will receive a major update adding features players have been asking for, like New Game Plus and a Photo Mode – common additions to large role-playing games. The update will also introduce new playable races, including dwarves, orlan, and aumaua, along with a brand-new weapon type. Obsidian Entertainment promises “much more” is included in the update, as they revealed during a recent extended gameplay showcase.
I’m so excited! Avowed is finally hitting PS5 on February 17th, and it’s coming with a big anniversary update for all of us playing on any platform. The update looks amazing – we’re getting New Game Plus, and even more races to choose from like dwarves, orlan, and aumaua. Plus, they’re adding a whole new weapon type and a Photo Mode – seriously, what more could you ask for? There’s a ton of other stuff too, it’s going to be huge!

On February 17th, current PC and Xbox Series X|S players will receive new features, and Avowed will launch on PS5. The game will also include the Anniversary Update at launch. You can pre-order Avowed now on the PlayStation Store for $49.99. Pre-ordering unlocks an in-game bundle called the Emperor’s Feast, which includes items to replenish health, mana, and other resources.
This update completes the current plan for Avowed. We can probably expect Obsidian to announce future plans for the game after it comes out on PlayStation 5 in February.
Avowed is now playable on PC through Steam and Xbox Series X|S. A PlayStation 5 version is coming soon, but there are currently no plans to release it on the Nintendo Switch 2.
