January is shaping up to be a fantastic month for Netflix viewers! Even though the year just started, the streaming service has already added several popular shows, including Falling Skies, Found, The Following, and 11.22.63. And there’s more to come! Netflix recently added all 33 episodes of a critically acclaimed crime drama that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Both seasons of the crime drama Prodigal Son are now available on Netflix. The show stars Tom Payne (from The Walking Dead) as Malcolm Bright, a brilliant former FBI profiler who now works with the NYPD. Malcolm uses his unusual ability – being the son of a famous serial killer – to solve cases, all while dealing with his own troubled history, a controlling mother, and his father’s attempts to contact him from prison. Prodigal Son originally ran for two seasons, from 2019 to 2021, and has been available only on HBO Max until now, making its arrival on Netflix a welcome addition.
Prodigal Son Is One of the Most Binge-Worthy Crime Dramas of the Decade
Looking for a new show to get hooked on? Definitely check out Prodigal Son. If you enjoyed shows like Dexter, Hannibal, or The Mentalist, you’ll love this series. It’s a thrilling and addictive watch that expertly mixes dark subject matter with surprising humor and insightful psychological exploration. Michael Sheen and Tom Payne give outstanding performances as a troubled profiler and his captivating, yet manipulative, serial killer father. Their complex relationship takes the show beyond a standard crime drama, delving into the psychological effects of violence. Despite the heavy themes, the show avoids being overly depressing, offering moments of levity through clever writing and a playfully dramatic style.
Get ready to binge-watch! Prodigal Son is a highly entertaining show that could easily become your new obsession. While critics were somewhat divided (it has a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), viewers absolutely loved it, giving it an impressive 86% audience score over its two seasons. Fans called it “gripping” and “one of the best shows around,” so it’s no surprise many were disappointed when it was cancelled – you’ll definitely be left wanting more after season two!
What’s New on Netflix?
If you’re like me and not quite ready to commit to a long series, Netflix has a ton of great movies and shows to choose from. They just added a bunch of cool titles! I was excited to see movies like 30 Minutes or Less, Dawn of the Dead, District 9, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Lone Survivor, and Priscilla – that one’s seriously trending right now. And if you’re a TV fan, get ready! They’re adding Veronica Mars (seasons 1-3) on January 14th, Southland (seasons 1-5) on January 16th, and Rizzoli & Isles (all 7 seasons!) on January 20th, plus a few other goodies. It’s a great time to be a Netflix user!
