Nintendo fans hoping for a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are likely to be disappointed, according to a reliable source. For years, rumors have spread online about Nintendo potentially remaking this highly praised game. Many believed the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda in 2026 would be the ideal time to release the remake on Switch or the next Nintendo console. However, new information suggests that this remake won’t be happening anytime soon.
Nintendo insider Nate the Hate was recently asked on X about rumors of a remake or remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. He stated he hadn’t heard anything suggesting it was in development. While this doesn’t definitively mean a remake won’t happen, Nate’s reliable history with Nintendo news suggests it’s unlikely to be in the works right now.
2026 Could See Multiple Zelda Games Announced

Okay, so I was hoping for an Ocarina of Time remake, but honestly, it kinda makes sense why Nintendo isn’t working on one right now. They already did a really solid remake for the 3DS back in 2011, and even though it’s not on Switch, it still looks and plays great. It’s still a fantastic way to experience that classic Zelda game!
Nintendo might still release new Zelda games in 2026. For several years, rumors have suggested that updated versions of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are finished and ready for the Nintendo Switch. If these reports are true, releasing them in 2026 would be a fitting way to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Zelda series.
Nintendo might also give fans a first look at the next major Zelda game, which is likely being developed for the Switch 2. The previous game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, came out in 2023, but was revealed almost four years earlier in 2019. This suggests Nintendo is comfortable announcing new Zelda games well in advance, and they could make a similar announcement in 2026.
