The Bundy family has always been known for their uncouth behavior on television, with the show “Married… With Children” airing for ten seasons from 1987 to 1997. After the series ended, the cast members went on to pursue different projects and never reprised their roles as Al, Peggy, Kelly, or Bud. However, in recent times, there have been rumors of a potential animated series revival of “Married… With Children.” Unfortunately, the latest updates may not be encouraging for those eagerly awaiting a comeback.
Based on reports from TV Line, the revival of the classic sitcom “Married… With Children” in animated form has been scrapped. This is unfortunate news for fans who were eagerly anticipating the return of Ed O’Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino in their original roles. However, there’s a glimmer of hope. Sony Pictures Television, as per the same source, considers the Bundys a “very valuable” asset to the company. The specifics on how the family will reappear are yet to be disclosed. Originally, the concept for the animated series envisioned the Bundys relocating from Chicago to Florida, facing fresh challenges as they adjusted to their new surroundings.
The Revival That Never Was
The Bundys find themselves getting acquainted with their new Latin neighbors, battling against snooty homeowners association members, and enjoying laughter at their community pool. Meanwhile, Al is determined to become a big shot but keeps getting swindled in Florida – a place where the weather is always sunny, but the people can be shady.
In 2023, actress Christina Applegate shared her thoughts about the project during an interview with Vanity Fair. Despite having multiple sclerosis, she expressed that she could still record lines for the upcoming series, saying, “I’m not sure I could handle going to set at the moment. This is a progressive disease, and I don’t know what the future holds. However, I can manage voiceover work because it allows me to support my family and keep my mind active. I can’t reveal much about the animated series, but all I can say is that we are all connected to it. It’s not entirely in our control now, so we’re just waiting patiently.
Although the Bundy family may not be returning, Katey Segal is gearing up to join another significant endeavor within the animation industry. Netflix’s One Piece has cast “Peggy” as Dr. Kureha for its second season, a character who serves as a mentor to a future Straw Hat Pirate named Tony Tony Chopper. Regrettably, the live-action Straw Hats won’t be returning this year, but fans can look forward to an impressive debut for season two in 2026.
