Leonardo DiCaprio Details “Chaos” of Filming One Battle After Another

Leonardo DiCaprio is a busy actor, but his most recent film experience has been particularly memorable.

At the 2026 Golden Globes on January 11th, the star of One Battle After Another talked about the special environment created on set by the film’s writer and director, Paul Thomas Anderson.

Okay, seriously, working with Paul Thomas Anderson is just… amazing. He’s all about letting things feel real, even if it’s a little chaotic, which is perfect! He spent SO much time finding these incredible, authentic locations for the movie. It wasn’t like sets, you know? We’d be filming in a real grocery store, a family-run business that was actually open while we were shooting! It felt so much more genuine because of it, and I was just completely blown away by how he makes everything feel so alive.

The 51-year-old actor, nominated for his role as Bob Ferguson in the film, explained that the realistic approach to acting created a chemistry among the cast that wasn’t simply written in the script.

As an actor, I really felt like this project empowered me to take a leadership role, guiding my colleagues through the story as it unfolded. Honestly, it was a blast! We all collaborated and grew together, which made the whole experience incredibly rewarding and, yes, a lot of fun.

Since its release last September, the film has received a lot of praise from various award shows. At the Golden Globes, One Battle After Another won Best Motion Picture, and Paul also took home awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay, accompanied by his partner of 24 years, Maya Rudolph. Teyana Taylor won her first Golden Globe for Best Performance in her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills. (You can find a full list of winners here.)

And true to their chemistry, the Titanic alum gave his costar her flowers.

Leonardo praised the entire cast in a recent interview, saying everyone Paul selected for the film was fantastic. He specifically highlighted Teyana, Regina Hall, and Chase Infiniti, and expressed how proud he was to be involved in the project.

He’s supported Teyana before – he’s previously said he enjoys collaborating with her creatively. Teyana shares two daughters, 9-year-old Iman and 5-year-old Rue, with her former husband, Iman Shumpert.

Leonardo said in September that his co-star has a fantastic sense of humor. He knew she would be a standout when she joined the movie, and she definitely delivered. He described her as a fun and awesome person to be around.
