Netflix’s new romantic comedy, People We Meet on Vacation, quickly became one of the platform’s most popular titles. Since being added last Friday, January 9th, many viewers have been tuning in to watch the film, which is based on a novel by Emily Henry.
Tom Blyth and Emily Bader play Alex and Poppy, two close friends who see the world differently. Each summer, despite the distance between them, they make a point of spending a week together.
Throughout the movie, the characters discover they’re perfectly suited for each other, and their blossoming romance is set to a backdrop of both classic and current hit songs.
A key song featured in the film is Taylor Swift’s “August” from her 2020 album, Folklore. According to writer and executive producer Henry in an interview with Tudum, the team had a lot of discussion about which Taylor Swift song to use.
She recalled director Brett Haley specifying that the scene needed to take place in August, and realized afterward how fitting that detail was.
