Code Vein 2’s Story Length is “About the Same, Perhaps A Little Bit Longer,” Says Producer

Games in the ‘Souls-like’ genre are usually quite long, though not always as extensive as Elden Ring. The original Code Vein takes around 26 to 27 hours to complete, according to player data, and the good news is the new sequel offers a similar amount of gameplay.

Producer Keita Iizuka told PCGamesN that the main story will be roughly the same length as Code Vein, maybe a bit longer. Like the first game, there will be optional side quests and activities, but Code Vein 2 boasts a bigger world and more ways to customize your character. The game’s time-travel feature also allows players to unlock multiple different endings.

Although the game is more action-packed and dramatic than its predecessor, the developer, Iizuka, doesn’t consider it a ‘Souls-like’ game. He prefers to describe it as a ‘dramatic exploration action-RPG,’ which is now its official genre. He understands why people are using the ‘Souls-like’ term, noting that both ‘action’ and ‘RPG’ have many different forms.

A key feature of Souls-like games is giving players a strong feeling of achievement. Players explore diverse areas and overcome challenges, which helps them improve and tackle even harder content, like dungeons and powerful enemies.

Although it might be difficult, the developers of Code Vein aim to deliver a truly unique game with compelling stories, emotional drama, and exciting action all blended together.

For players worried about the use of AI in game development, rest assured that Code Vein 2 hasn’t used it. According to producer Iizuka, this is because the team strongly values the artistic style and overall look of the game. Since they’re building a unique and original world, maintaining a consistent aesthetic and cohesive world-view for players is a top priority.

The highly anticipated game, Code Vein 2, arrives on January 29th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition will be able to start playing three days early. A new boss, The Blinded Resurgence Offspring, has also been revealed – it’s a formidable opponent wielding a huge katana and isn’t afraid to injure itself to gain power.
