If you enjoy murder mysteries, Netflix has a lot to offer. Shows like Knives Out, The Lincoln Lawyer, The Thursday Murder Club, and lighter options like Murder Mystery and Murderville are all popular choices. You can now add the new miniseries, His & Hers, to that list – it’s a captivating and quick watch. Based on Alice Feeney’s novel, the series features excellent performances from Jon Bernthal and, particularly, Tessa Thompson (who also helped produce it). Throughout the six episodes, the show skillfully keeps you guessing about who might be responsible for the three murders that occur.
Did the killer come from the group we’ve been following, or was it someone else entirely? Could it have been another person living in Dahlonega? Let’s break down what happens in the last episode.
And, as one might imagine, Spoilers for His & Hers follow.
The following includes a discussion of plot points involving sexual assault.
Who Is the Killer in His & Hers?

Anna Thompson is a journalist who recently returned to work after a long, mysterious absence. When a murder occurs in her hometown, she sees a chance to regain her on-screen presence. Through her husband, Jack – the town’s lead investigator – she discovers the victim was someone she knew in high school. The first episode reveals a complicated web of secrets: Jack was having an affair with the victim, whose wife has been missing for almost a year, and Anna secretly witnessed their affair.
Rachel suffered a horrific attack, stabbed forty times in the chest. Surprisingly, Anna seemed strangely unaffected by her friend’s violent death. Was this because Anna had seen Rachel with Jack? Or was there another reason for her reaction? The situation becomes even more mysterious when Helen, another of Anna’s close friends, is discovered dead at her workplace. Tragically, Zoe, Jack’s sister and a third member of Anna’s friend group, is also murdered.
We’re now confident Jack wasn’t involved in the killings. While we initially suspected Anna, that suspicion disappears when she finds a surprising discovery at her coworker Lexi Jones’ lake house. It turns out Lexi is actually Catherine Alexis Kelly, who was bullied as a teenager for being overweight. She’s since lost weight and completely transformed her appearance, making her almost unrecognizable from her high school days.
At Lexi’s lake house, the truth about why Anna distanced herself from her friends is revealed. It turns out the three deceased women arranged a party for Anna’s sixteenth birthday that led to Anna and Catherine being sexually assaulted by older men in the woods. Catherine blames Anna for including her in the group with Rachel, Helen, and Zoe. Both Anna and the audience now suspect Catherine is close to finishing her plan for revenge, particularly when Catherine points a gun at Anna. However, the situation changes when Jack’s partner, Priya, arrives and shoots Lexi.
It wasn’t Catherine after all. The voiceovers we’ve been hearing from Anna throughout the series were actually her reading a letter from her mother, Alice. We thought Alice was suffering from dementia – like when she made coffee for Jack and seemed confused he was there, or made eggs for Anna with the shells still inside. But it turns out Alice was pretending to have dementia. She killed the three women after discovering a home video showing her daughter (and Catherine) being sexually assaulted.
Alice originally intended to make Catherine the scapegoat for the murders, but Priya’s actions forced her to change plans. Now, she’s admitting everything to her daughter, confident she won’t be suspected. The show suggests this confidence is well-placed, as investigators typically overlook women and older people as potential serial killers. The final scene, a shared smile between Anna and Alice, implies a silent understanding – a ‘thank you’ for the cover-up and a ‘you’re welcome’ for keeping the secret.
