Joe Alwyn Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction at Golden Globes 2026

Alas, poor Joe Alwyn.

During the 2026 Golden Globes on January 11th, the star of Hamnet experienced a wardrobe issue right after the film won Best Picture. (Check out photos of all the red carpet attendees here.)

While taking pictures with his co-stars Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley, Noah Jupe, and Jacobi Jupe at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Joe’s shirt unexpectedly came undone, briefly exposing his chest.

“Oh my gosh,” the 34-year-old exclaimed with a laugh, while Jessie—who had just won Best Female Actor in a Drama Motion Picture at the ceremony hosted by Nikki Glaser—joked, “Time to celebrate!”

ChloĂ© Zhao, the director, helped Joe with his shirt, but it was Noah who saved the day. He quickly stood in front of Joe to hide a broken seam. Joe was so grateful for Noah’s clever solution that he hugged the 20-year-old before they continued taking photos together.

The cast and crew of Hamnet have grown very close since finishing the film. As Chloé explained in her acceptance speech, some of the people in the village where they filmed lost family members during production.

She continued, saying they were sending their love and support, and were there for them because they cared deeply.

The film, which reimagines the lives of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway, centers around the loss of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet, and how they cope with grief while Shakespeare is writing the famous play Hamlet. Joe describes it as a moving story about both heartbreak and love.

He described the film as emotionally difficult – painful, sad, and heartbreaking – but also incredibly loving. At the November premiere, he explained that the story shows “the power of art and healing.”

While Hamnet received a major award at the Golden Globes, other winners also deserve recognition. Here’s a look at who else took home a prize that night.
