Kristen Bell’s Golden Globes Prep Included a Thong Hair Tie

Kristen Bell had an unconventional start to her 2026 Golden Globes morning.

The actress from Nobody Wants This shared a peek at how she gets ready for award shows, revealing she once used a thong as a hair tie during a workout before heading out to prepare.

Kristen explained to her makeup and hair team in an Instagram video posted on January 12th that it was their only choice, and she confidently added, “I always find a way to make it work.”

The 45-year-old shared another unusual beauty tip: she doesn’t bother painting her toenails if they won’t be visible in her shoes on the red carpet, as she doesn’t want to waste time on them.

Kristen explained, “You only need to paint three toes, since you won’t be able to see the others inside the shoe. Just those three will do.”

The actor, known for their role in The Good Place, had a quick hamburger and fries before finishing getting ready.

Kristen stepped into her black Giorgio Armani Privé gown with a little assistance. The dress had a unique bodice covered in a vibrant mix of colorful sequins, and a sleek, fitted black skirt that flowed to the floor.

She was soon joined by her husband, Dax Shepard, who wore a traditional black tuxedo. They shared a kiss before heading to the Beverly Hilton hotel for the awards show.

It was an exciting night for Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who have two daughters, 12-year-old Lincoln and 11-year-old Delta. Both were nominated for awards: Kristen for her role in the TV series Nobody Wants This, and Dax for his podcast, Armchair Expert.

Neither Kristen nor her show won an award—Kristen lost to Jean Smart from Hacks, and Good Hang With Amy Poehler received the first-ever podcast award. However, Kristen was thrilled that Dax was nominated.

She told Justin Sylvester from TopMob News on the red carpet that she was there to support her husband and best friend, who were both nominated in the very first podcast category.

Kristen said she’ll be incredibly excited – and maybe a little overwhelmed – when the award category for her friends or loved ones is announced, even if they don’t actually win, because she’s so proud of everything they’ve accomplished.

She was completely preoccupied with Dax, to the point where she admitted she wasn’t even considering her own needs or interests, saying, “I’m not even thinking about me.”
