Next week on Emmerdale, viewers will see five flashbacks revealing what happened surrounding Ray Walters’s (Joe Absolom) death.
Ever since a brief preview showed someone being dragged through the village, viewers haven’t known what happened to him. Later, his body was discovered wrapped up in Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) van, seemingly being taken to Manchester.
After the serious crash on Connelton Lane, Jai apparently didn’t make it where he was going, and disturbing evidence remains in his vehicle. He’s now the main suspect in the case, and will be investigated next week.
But did he really kill Ray?
This is a classic mystery, like a soap opera, with several suspects. Each episode next week will focus on a different person, revealing their potential reasons and whereabouts on the night of the murder.
The suspects meet up, and discuss where they were…
Here’s what you can expect to see on Emmerdale from Monday, January 19th to Friday, January 23rd, 2026.
Emmerdale flashback week spoilers
Monday 19th January (Laurel and Arthur Thomas)

After Celia was murdered, Ray stood beside her body in their farmhouse, then grabbed his red bag and left. He walked to the village, intending to tell Laurel they could finally be together now that Celia was gone.
She recently discovered their terrible actions and struggled to accept that he could be involved. When he came to Mulberry Cottage, she immediately challenged him about it.
Ray attempts to convince her he was also wronged and pleads to be let go. Feeling some sympathy, she agrees to release him, not knowing that Arthur is determined to get revenge for the pain Ray caused his mother.

Nicola encourages Laurel to trick him, but Laurel questions if she’s capable of delivering justice herself.
Tuesday 20th January (Rhona Goskirk)

Okay, so we immediately cut back to the scene of Celia’s death, and it’s chilling. We see Ray, in a moment of cold calculation, wiping his fingerprints off the knife he used on his mother. It’s a direct, unsettling confirmation of his guilt, and honestly, a pretty shocking visual.
He grabs the red sports bag and heads to find Laurel. Meanwhile, Rhona and Marlon are worried about April, who is missing, and are discussing it at Smithy Cottage.
As he continues to spiral, a figure looms behind her. Who is it, and did they help her kill Ray?

Wednesday 21st January (Marlon and Paddy Dingle, and Ross Barton)

Okay, so the episode picks up right after things went horribly wrong at the farmhouse. Ray’s on the run, having just… well, you know, dealt with Celia. He grabs his red bag and starts heading for the village, trying to get away. But before he can fully escape, he can’t resist going back inside, upstairs specifically, to see if Celia was telling the truth about what happened to Bear Wolf – Joshua Richards’ character. It’s like he needs to confirm it for himself, even while he’s trying to flee.
He couldn’t bear to look at his own body lying on the floor, and was horrified to see his father so distraught.

Marlon is now focused on finding Ray and learning the truth about April’s disappearance. He arms himself with a knife and heads out.
Paddy discovers the truth about the slavery operation and is shocked. Ray then tells him the devastating news that Bear is gone, and Paddy flies into a rage. However, he’s threatened – if he tries to get revenge, Dylan will suffer the consequences.

Marlon and Paddy are pushed to the limit, while Ross is cooking up a plan – preparing a shotgun.
Is he the one who killed Ray, and then returned April to the village?
Thursday 22nd January (The reveal)

Following several important events and a final look at the potential killers, the mystery of Ray’s death is finally solved.
After discovering Bear’s body in the attic, Ray managed to calm down. Now, completely devastated, he needs to deal with the grim task of getting rid of Celia’s body.
He heads to the village and bumps into Eve, threatening the youngster to ensure Paddy stays quiet.

I couldn’t believe what happened next! Arthur saw his chance and grabbed that red sports bag, rushing straight back to Mulberry. You can imagine the shock on Laurel’s face when she opened it and found drugs hidden inside. It was a total disaster!
Friday 23rd January (The aftermath)
With Ray now dead, the person responsible faces a terrifying task: they must put his body in Jai’s van and pray that Jai unknowingly drives it to Manchester.
As we know, their plan wasn’t successful…
