In both 2024 and 2025, Solo Leveling has been a top anime hit, with two new seasons airing each winter. The series was already incredibly popular worldwide thanks to the original web novel by Chugong and its manhwa adaptation. But the anime, produced by A-1 Pictures, took its popularity to the next level, becoming a global phenomenon. Although the web novel and manhwa have finished their stories, the anime has only covered the Jeju Island Arc so far. From here on, the story promises to be even more gripping as it delves into the world’s biggest secrets.
I’ve been following this franchise closely, and it’s more than just the anime itself – there are video games, the Ragnarok manhwa, and even a live-action adaptation in the works. With all that going on, I really expected 2026 to be a fantastic year for fans. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case so far. We’ve already seen some disappointing news, like the delay of the Season 3 announcement, and now Ragnarok has brought some bad news as well.
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok Goes on an Indefinite Hiatus

Following the conclusion of the original novel, author Daul released a sequel called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, which was also made into a manhwa (Korean comic) in 2024. This month, the manhwa—written by Daul Do and illustrated by JIN—paused production indefinitely because the artist, JIN, began his required military service. This service usually lasts between eighteen and twenty-one months, meaning the series will likely be on hold for around two years.
Ragnarok centers on Suho, the son of Jinwoo, who initially had his powers locked away but has since regained them. Now, he’s tasked with protecting the world from powerful, otherworldly threats. Although often seen as a continuation of the original story, some fans believe Ragnarok takes place in a separate, alternate universe.
Solo Leveling’s Other Projects Have More Disappointing Updates For Fans

Fans are eagerly waiting for the continuation of the Ragnarok story, and right now, the anime’s third season and the upcoming live-action adaptation are the best hopes. However, both are likely still a ways off. It’s been nearly a year since the second anime season aired, and there haven’t been any announcements about a third. Though rumors of a movie potentially coming before Season 3 have spread online, nothing has been officially confirmed. While a significant update may arrive this year, a new season or movie release seems unlikely in the near future.
Honestly, I was really bummed to hear the news about the live-action adaptation! It’s going to be a K-drama instead of a movie, which is a bit of a letdown. And apparently, they’re planning to tell the whole story in just one short season – a few episodes, basically. While the story isn’t super long to begin with, squeezing everything into that timeframe means a lot of beloved moments and plot points are probably going to get cut. It’s a little disheartening, to be honest!
