Wow, can you believe Pokemon Go is almost ten years old? 2026 is shaping up to be a cool year already – we’ve gotten a brand new Pokemon and a new Shiny! But, honestly, some of us are noticing it feels harder to find Pokemon, which is a bit frustrating. Still, I’m excited to keep my Pokedex complete, and the new High Zaptitude event sounds awesome! On January 13th, we’re getting Wattrel, another Pokemon from the Paldea region, and the Shiny version of Tadbulb will be available too. I can’t wait to catch them both!
Okay, so I’m really excited because Wattrel, that super cute electric bird Pokemon from Scarlet & Violet, is finally coming to Pokemon Go! You might recognize it as one of the main characters’ partners in the Pokemon Horizons anime. It’s arriving with a new event called “High Zaptitude,” which starts January 13th at 10 AM and runs until January 18th at 8 PM – local time, of course. And that’s not all! They’re also boosting the shiny odds for Tadbulb, which is awesome, and there’s a Global Challenge where we can all work together to unlock even more rewards. Definitely gonna be busy catching everything!
How to Get Wattrel in Pokemon Go

The new Pokémon, Wattrel, is coming to Pokémon Go, but there’s a catch. While it will eventually appear in the wild, players first need to finish a special Global Challenge before they can start finding it.
You can unlock the Wattrel encounter when you reach Level 2 in the High Zaptitude Global Challenge. To track our progress toward unlocking Wattrel, visit the Events section within the Research tab in Pokémon Go.
After players reach Level 2, they’ll start finding Wattrel and its evolved form, Kilowattrel, appearing in the wild. You can also encounter them by completing Field Research tasks. During the special High Zaptitude event from January 12th to 18th, these Pokémon will appear more often, but they’ll still be available to catch after the event ends.
Boosted Shiny Tadbulb Hatch Bonus & Featured Wild Spawns for High Zaptitude

Tadbulb is already in Pokémon Go, but the Shiny version will appear for the first time during the High Zaptitude event. You’ll be able to find it appearing in the wild more often during the event. If you’re trying to catch a Shiny Tadbulb, you’ll have better luck hatching eggs, as they’ll have an increased chance of being Shiny.
During the High Zaptitude event, you’ll be able to hatch Tadbulb from 2 KM Eggs! Keep an eye on PokeStops to collect these eggs, as it’s a great chance to find a Shiny Tadbulb. Other Pokemon available in 2 KM Eggs during the event include Pichu, Elekid, and Toxel, but their Shiny rates won’t be increased.
During this event in Pokemon Go, players can expect to hatch more eggs and find more Electric-type Pokemon appearing on the map. Some of the Pokemon you might encounter in the wild include:
- Chinchou
- Helioptile
- Tadbulb
- Shinx
You can find Shiny versions of all these Pokémon in Pokémon Go. This makes it a good event for players who are still trying to collect Shiny Electric-type Pokémon.
The Pokemon Go High Zaptitude event starts January 13th at 10 AM and ends January 18th at 8 PM local time. During the event, players can earn double Stardust by catching and hatching Pokemon by completing Global Challenges. A special Timed Research will also be available for purchase, letting trainers hatch Eggs faster and increase their chances of finding a Shiny Tadbulb.
