Like most network TV shows, the NCIS series took a break for the holidays, with all three CBS dramas pausing in December. The Origins and Sydney spin-offs had their season finales the week before the main NCIS show finished its mid-season run. Originally, all three shows were expected to return in late February 2026, but now fans will have to wait even longer.
CBS originally planned to premiere its NCIS shows – including NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney – on Tuesday, February 24th. However, the network had to change its plans due to the President’s schedule.
The Latest State Of The Union Is Now Set For February 24, 2026
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced on January 7th that Donald Trump will give the first State of the Union address of his term on February 24, 2026. Traditionally, when the President delivers this speech, most television networks will interrupt their regular programming to broadcast it.
I’ve noticed that networks sometimes hold back new shows for later, but they rarely mess with established blocks of programming. That’s why CBS is keeping all three NCIS shows together – they want to make sure their big premiere night stays strong and consistent.

The NCIS Franchise Will Return On Tuesday, March 3
After a dramatic midseason finale, fans have been waiting almost three months to find out what happens next in NCIS: Origins and the other shows in the series. The winter premieres will now air on March 3, 2026, meaning there’s still some time to wait, and details about the upcoming episodes are still unknown.
The next episode of NCIS Season 23 will be called “Army of One,” but it’s currently unknown how that title relates to the plot. However, Brian Dietzen, a star on the show, recently revealed to TopMob that the storyline involving artificial intelligence will continue throughout the rest of the season.
NCIS, being a government agency, will naturally face challenges as it grows and adopts new technologies. This will be a major theme on the show this season, driving significant storylines and ultimately leading to big changes within the team.
If artificial intelligence starts appearing in the storylines of NCIS: Origins, it’ll be a sign that the timeline has seriously gone off track and needs to be corrected. But dealing with that? That’ll likely be a story for a future spinoff, maybe something like NCIS: Skynet.
It’s disappointing that the three NCIS shows are delayed by a week, and we won’t be getting any continuation of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which Paramount+ canceled last December without a clear explanation. Fans have their own theories, but we may learn more about Tony and Ziva’s story in the later episodes of the main NCIS series.

As a huge TV fan, I’ve been checking out Paramount+, and it looks great! You can get into all things NCIS for as little as $7.99 a month with their Essential plan, or go ad-free for $12.99 a month. Honestly though, if you’re planning on watching a lot, their annual plan is the way to go – it’s a real money saver. I just checked out the deal, and it seems like a good value for all the content you get!
You can watch every season of all the NCIS shows on Paramount+. Mark your calendars for March 3rd – you won’t want to be caught off guard when you’re hoping to see McGee (Sean Murray)!
