Elon Musk is taking a major step in his legal battle against Ashley St. Clair.
Following Ashley’s recent apology for past comments that were critical of the transgender community, the CEO of Tesla announced he intends to seek full custody of their 16-month-old son, Romulus.
On January 12th, Elon, 54, announced on X that he was seeking full custody of his child because the child’s mother suggested she might help their one-year-old son transition genders.
He publicly acknowledged Romulus as his son for the first time, something previously supported by a Labcorp report. That report, which came during a past custody battle, stated there was a 99.9999% probability of him being the father, according to The Wall Street Journal.
After Elon’s announcement, Ashley said she’d been blocked from using Twitter Premium. In a post on January 12th, she explained, “They just banned me from Twitter Premium completely.”
These comments from Elon follow an apology he made yesterday to a social media user and to his 21-year-old daughter, Vivian, who is transgender. Vivian is one of the children Elon shares with his former wife, Justine Wilson. They also have a son, Griffin, 21, and 19-year-old triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian. Sadly, another child, Nevada, passed away as an infant in 2002. Vivian publicly called out her father’s previous actions, describing them as openly prejudiced against transgender people.
On January 11th, Ashley posted on X expressing deep regret for her past views on the transgender community. She specifically feels terrible that her previous statements may have caused pain to her son’s sister. While she’s unsure how to fully make things right, she’s been working hard in private to educate herself and support members of the transgender community she has hurt.
Ashley delayed sharing her opinion because she was worried about how the community would react, considering her previous statements.

I’ve hesitated to speak up about this because I worried my perspective would be seen as insincere or as simply motivated by bitterness. I know even saying this now might be twisted and used to create outrage, but I genuinely am sorry. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.
TopMob News has reached out to both Ashley and Elon’s reps for comment but hasn’t yet heard back.
I’ve been following this story for a while now, and it’s not surprising to see another custody dispute between him and Ashley. He’s a tech entrepreneur and has a large family – fourteen children! – so these things seem to happen repeatedly, and it’s always played out publicly.
The executive, who shares five children with two different partners – five-year-old X Æ A-Xii, four-year-old Exa Dark Sideræl, and three-year-old Tau Techno Mechanicus with Grimes, and four-year-old twins Strider and Azure, as well as 23-month-old Arcadia and 11-month-old Seldon Lycurgus with Shivon Zilis – was recently in the news. A conservative activist claimed in August she was being evicted as part of the ongoing issues surrounding the children’s custody.
Ashley launched her podcast, Bad Advice with Ashley St. Clair, on August 18th, explaining it came after a difficult year that included career setbacks and personal challenges. She jokingly revealed she was facing eviction, but Polymarket offered her $10,000 for a sponsorship, which she quipped would help cover her rent.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Ashley previously claimed that Elon offered her $15 million and $100,000 each month to keep quiet about their child’s birth.
She turned down the reported offer—Elon Musk hasn’t commented on it directly—and explained to Jared Birchall, who manages Musk’s finances, that she didn’t want her son to feel hidden from the world.
Despite questioning whether he was the father, Elon Musk admitted to providing financial support for the child a month before the claim was made.
On March 31st, Elon Musk posted on X that he’s unsure if a child is his, but he’s open to paternity testing without a court order.
He added, “Despite not knowing for sure, I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year.”
Ashley explained her financial difficulties around the time she was spotted returning the keys to her $100,000 Tesla near her Manhattan home.
She told reporters she needed to cover the financial gap created by Elon Musk’s 60% reduction in child support payments. When asked if she believed his actions were motivated by spite, she stated that it was typical for him to react this way when women voiced their opinions.
“You can check the stocks,” she added. “I’m not the only one who is cleaning up after his messes.”
For a closer look at Elon’s complicated family tree, read on…

Maye was born in Saskatchewan, Canada and moved to Pretoria, South Africa with her parents in 1950 at the age of 7. She separated from Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, in 1979.
Born in Canada shortly after her brother, Elon, immigrated at age 17, Maye automatically became a Canadian citizen. She then built a career as a registered dietitian, eventually leading the Consulting Dietitians of Canada, and also worked as a model.
After selling his company Zip2 for over $300 million in 2019, Elon Musk bought an apartment in New York City for his mother. She lived there for 13 years and continued her modeling work, even signing with the prestigious IMG Models agency.
In an essay for CNBC, Maye explained that she raised her children with the same values her parents instilled in her: independence, kindness, honesty, thoughtfulness, and good manners. She also emphasized the importance of hard work and doing what’s right.

Elon’s father is an engineer and like Elon, was born in South Africa.
Errol Musk mentioned in a 2015 Forbes interview that he frequently traveled internationally with his children after his divorce—he said, “I took them all over the world.” However, his relationship with his son, Elon, isn’t always smooth.
In a candid and heartfelt 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Elon Musk spoke about his difficult childhood and his relationship with his father. He explained that after his parents divorced, living with his father proved to be a negative experience.
However, Errol told Rolling Stone, “I love my children and would readily do whatever for them.”
After his divorce from Maye, Errol married Heide, who had a four-year-old daughter named Jana Bezuidenhout. Errol and Heide later had two daughters of their own, but they eventually separated as well.
After experiencing her own heartbreak years later, Jana contacted Errol. In a 2018 interview with The Sunday Times, Errol described them both as lonely and lost individuals who found each other. He playfully suggested their connection was simply fate – “God’s plan or nature’s plan,” as he put it.
The couple fell in love and had a son, Elliott, in 2017, followed by a daughter in 2019. Errol explained to The Sun that he believes the purpose of life is to have children, and he would gladly have more if he could, seeing no reason not to.

Born in 1972, Kimbal is a restaurant owner and created The Kitchen, a group of five restaurants that get their ingredients directly from local farms. He also leads Big-Green, a non-profit organization that has established 200 educational gardens in schools throughout the United States.
Tosca, a filmmaker born in 1974, created Passionflix in 2017. Passionflix is a streaming service designed for women and caters to fans of romance novels, a market worth over a billion dollars.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this about Elon! He met Justine back when they were both at Queen’s University, and they were SO in love – they got married in 2000! But things…didn’t stay perfect. Justine actually wrote this incredible, heartbreaking article for Marie Claire back in 2010 – it was called I Was a Starter Wife: Inside America’s Messiest Divorce. And get this – she said that while they were dancing at their wedding, Elon actually told her, straight to her face, “I am the alpha in this marriage.” Can you even imagine?! It just… it explains SO much, you know?
At the time, I didn’t think much of it,” Justine explained, “much like I later dismissed signing the postnuptial agreement. But eventually, I realized he was being genuine about what he said.”
In 2002, Justine and her partner experienced a heartbreaking loss when their 10-week-old son, Nevada Alexander, unexpectedly passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). According to Justine, Nevada had been put down for a nap on his back, as they always did, and simply stopped breathing.
I was so thrilled for them when they decided to try IVF, and it worked! They weren’t stopping there, though – they ended up having five more beautiful children! First came twins, Vivian and Griffin, and then, incredibly, they were blessed with triplets – Kai, Saxon, and Damian. It’s just amazing to watch their family grow!
In 2008, Elon filed for divorce.

In 2022, Elon Musk shared that he brought his children, Griffin and the triplets, to meet Pope Francis. Although honored to meet the head of the Catholic Church, Elon jokingly described his outfit as a “tragic” suit.

In 2022, Griffin’s twin sister also petitioned the court to legally change her name to reflect her gender identity. As part of this process, she stated she wanted to completely cut ties with their biological father.
During a July 2024 interview with Jordan Peterson on Daily Wire, Elon Musk discussed his daughter’s gender transition. He stated he felt like he had lost his son, and referred to his child by her birth name, saying she had been affected by what he called the “woke mind virus.”
He claimed he was misled into signing medical paperwork that allowed Vivian to receive gender-affirming care.
Vivian disagreed with his statements, telling NBC News, “He wasn’t tricked at all. He was fully aware of the potential side effects.”
In a 2025 interview with Teen Vogue, Vivian shared that she moved from Los Angeles to Japan and hasn’t spoken to her father since 2020. She described him as immature, stating, “I’m not afraid of him just because he has money. Money means nothing to me.”

Elon and Talulah, both known for their roles on the HBO series Westworld, got married in 2010. Talulah later shared with CBS News that things moved quickly – they were engaged after only about two weeks of dating.
The couple first divorced in 2012, then surprised everyone by getting back together and remarrying in 2013. However, they divorced again in 2016. More recently, in June 2024, Talulah married Thomas Brodie-Sangster, known for his role in Love Actually.

Elon Musk and Amber Heard began dating publicly in early 2017, following both of their divorces – hers from Johnny Depp and his from Talulah Riley (this was his second marriage). However, their relationship was short-lived.
In a November 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Elon Musk revealed he had recently gone through a breakup. He admitted he was deeply in love and that the split was very painful, adding that his girlfriend had initiated the breakup more than he did.

Elon Musk and the singer Grimes had an on-again, off-again relationship for four years, beginning in 2018. In September 2021, Musk told Page Six they were essentially separated, explaining that his work with SpaceX and Tesla keeps him mostly in Texas or abroad, while Grimes works primarily in Los Angeles. At the time, Grimes was staying with him, and their child was nearby.
In March 2022, she told Vanity Fair that while they live in separate homes, they remain close and are best friends.
She later shared on Twitter that she and E had broken up again as of the time of her post, but emphasized they remain best friends and that he is the love of her life. She added that her life and her art are now fully focused on ‘The Mission’.
Okay, so you will NOT believe this! When it finally came out in September 2023, it turned out they actually had three little ones! Our amazing artist, the “Crystal Ball” singer, confirmed it themselves – their newest baby, Techno Mechanicus, joined big brother X Æ A-12 and sweet little sister Exa Dark Sideræl. I seriously can’t even handle the cuteness! It’s a full crew now!
In November 2024, Grimes shared that she had been involved in a year-long legal struggle in a state with unfavorable laws regarding parental rights. She stated that her Instagram posts and modeling work were used against her in a custody dispute, and that this was happening while she was also going through a difficult separation from the person she loved, who she felt was changing into someone she didn’t recognize.
Despite being limited in what she could bring to the legal battle, she was separated from one of her children for five months. She explained that she could only share a small part of her experience publicly, as much of what happened over the last few years needs to remain private.

In 2020, Elon Musk and Grimes had a son. They originally chose a unique name, but had to simplify the spelling to comply with California law, which only allows English letters. They ultimately named him X Æ A-Xii.
Grimes shared the meaning behind her child’s unique name on social media. ‘X’ represents an unknown variable, while ‘Æ’ is her elven-inspired way of spelling ‘AI,’ which stands for either love or artificial intelligence. ‘A-12’ is a reference to the SR-17 aircraft, her favorite, and symbolizes speed and agility. She emphasized that it’s designed for performance, not for combat or defense – it’s powerful but non-violent.
Grimes continued, “A=Archangel, my favorite song” adding a rat and sword emoji. “Metal rat.”

Grimes shared in a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair that she and Elon Musk secretly had a daughter through surrogacy.
The name ‘Exa’ comes from exaFLOPS, a term used in supercomputing that means being able to perform a quintillion calculations per second, she explained. And ‘Dark,’ she continued, represents the unknown – something people often fear, but which is simply the lack of light. Dark matter, then, is one of the most fascinating puzzles in the universe.
Sideræl (pronounced sigh-deer-ee-el) is what my mom calls the real time of the universe—based on stars and deep space, rather than our everyday earth time. It’s also a reference to Galadriel, a character from Lord of the Rings, who chooses to give up the One Ring.
Walter Isaacson revealed in his biography Elon Musk that Exa was born in December 2021 via surrogate.
The book reveals that around Father’s Day 2022, the couple, who had an on-and-off relationship, welcomed a son named Techno Mechanicus, but they call him Tau. The baby was born via surrogate, and the book features a June 2022 photo of Elon feeding him.
Grimes has repeatedly asked for privacy regarding details of her children’s lives. In a 2025 social media post, she explained she’s even pleaded with the public and her children’s father, and explored legal options, to keep them off the internet. She expressed serious concern about the constant public attention and said she’s constantly searching for a solution, feeling it’s unacceptable that there’s no way to protect them.

In 2022, court records obtained by Business Insider revealed that Elon Musk had twins with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his company Neuralink. The twins were born in Austin, Texas, where Musk resides.
Okay, so he finally addressed that report on X, and honestly, it was everything! He posted that he’s ‘doing his best to help the underpopulation crisis,’ which… yes, thank you! And then he just nailed it, saying a dropping birth rate is the biggest threat to everything we’ve built! I mean, he gets it, you guys! He totally gets it! It’s just… perfect.
“Mark my words,” he added, “they are sadly true.”
A 2023 biography of Elon Musk revealed the full names of his twins: Strider Sekhar Sirius and Azure Astra Alice. Musk explained that Strider’s name came from the nickname of Aragorn in Lord of the Rings and in honor of physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. Azure’s name, meanwhile, was inspired by a spell from the video game Elden Ring.

Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis had their third child together on February 28, 2024. Musk confirmed the news in June, telling Page Six that while they hadn’t issued a formal announcement, the birth wasn’t a secret from those close to them. He explained that the lack of a press release didn’t mean they were trying to hide anything.
A year after opening, Shivon shared a heartfelt birthday message on Twitter: “Happy 1st birthday, Arcadia! Mommy loves you so much.”

I remember Valentine’s Day 2025 so clearly! It was the day Ashley St. Clair, a conservative voice I really follow, announced some pretty big news – she was expecting a baby! It was such a sweet moment, and I was thrilled for her.
The author of ‘Elephants Are Not Birds’ announced on X (formerly Twitter) February 14th that she and Elon Musk had a son, named Romulus, after the founder of Rome. She explained that she had kept the news private to protect her child, but felt compelled to share it because the media was planning to reveal the information anyway, potentially causing harm.
She explained that she wants their child to have a safe and typical upbringing. Therefore, she requested that the media respect the child’s privacy and avoid overly intrusive reporting.
Following reports that her representative asked Elon Musk to publicly recognize his fatherhood, she claimed he had reduced the financial support he provides for their child. This led Musk to respond publicly on social media.
He posted on X on March 31st that he wasn’t sure if he was the child’s father, but he was open to finding out. He also revealed he had already given Ashley $2.5 million and continues to send her $500,000 each year.
She could have received even more money, according to an April article in the Wall Street Journal. The article claimed that Elon Musk’s employee, Jared Birchall, offered Ashley $15 million plus $100,000 each month for child support if she didn’t discuss their child.
However, Ashley said she told him, “I don’t want my son to feel like he’s a secret.”

Elon and Shivon announced the birth of their fourth child, a son named Seldon Lycurgus, on February 28, 2025. They shared the news while celebrating their third child’s first birthday.
I spoke with Elon, and because of Arcadia’s birthday, we decided to share news about our amazing son, Seldon Lycurgus. He’s strong and kindhearted, and we love him dearly, I shared on X.
Elon responded with a heart emoji.
